  1. "...lost most of the bar at the top of my screen no tools option etc..." and "...bookmarks..."
    • Top bar = Menu Bar and "Bookmarks" is on the Menu Bar; see below
  2. "...well as back arrow..."
    • Back/forward arrows on the Navigation Toolbar; see below
    • If Navigation Toolbar is displayed and only arrows are missing see first item under Navigation Toolbar below.

Menu Bar (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help) , see:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Menu+bar+is+missing

  • Press F10, Menu bar will appear, click View, click Toolbars, click Menu bar
  • Press ALT, the Menu bar will appear, click View, click Toolbars, click Menu bar
  • Hold down the ALT button while pressing V+T+M

Navigation Toolbar (Back/forward, Refresh...Home, URL/Location Bar, Search Bar): Do one of the following

  1. click View > Toolbars, click on "Navigation Toolbar" to place a check mark, OR#right-click the Menu Bar, click "Navigation Toolbar" to place a check mark. See:

Bookmarks Toolbar: Same procedure as Navigation Bar except click "Bookmarks Toolbar".
Status Bar: click View, click Status Bar to place a check mark
Full Screen Mode: If you have no Toolbars or Tab Bar: Press F11 (F11 is an on/off toggle). See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Netbooks#Full_screen

When I select View/Toolbars both Menu and Navigation bar are selected, but I do not have the menu bar that has the refresh button, home button, etc. All post that I see on this issue are telling you to check these two menu bars. I have them selected, but still do not have the menu I used to have and still desire.

Firefox 4.0 has a combined Reload, Stop, & Go button that appears at the right end of the Location bar, which is part of the Navigation Bar. Only one function is ever active at any one time, so combining them save UI space was a good idea. When a page is loading, it is a "Stop" button, when it finished loading, it turns into a "Reload" button, and when you start to type something into the Location bar it turns into a "Go" button.

To restore the Firefox 3 appearance you can use these steps:

  • Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window or right-click a vacant area on a Toolbar, except fot the Bookmarks Toolbar.
  • Then drag'n'drop the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position at the left side of the Location bar.
  1. Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  2. Set the order to "Stop - Reload" to separate them and get two distinct buttons.

The Home button was moved to the extreme right-side of the Navigation Bar. It can be moved to where you want it while in the Customize node, too.
