Hi. Today I reinstalled the system on my computer. I redownloaded Mozilla and wanted to log in to restore my bookmarks. I forgot my password. I used the button that I forgot my password. I used my email and activation link for a new password. After logging back into Mozilla, my bookmarks are gone. Nothing like creating a new account. It is very important for me to recover my data.

Hi

Thank you for your question about the Firefox Sync service. I have removed your email address from your question for your privacy and security as this is an open forum.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service. When you changed your password, you removed the data being synced between devices.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.

Resetting the password for the Firefox Account because you do not remember the password will remove all data stored on the Sync server because this password is used to encrypt your data before it is uploaded to the Sync server and only this password or a possible recovery key can decrypt this data.

In that case, why should I reset the password for an account that will be useless and will look like a new one? I can create a new account and I will not have anything on it either, as I have now on my old account. Where and how can I store my data so that it is secured and not lost after an action such as: I forgot my password?
