thunderbird doesn't add new messages until the next day or in 1 account it is up to 3-4 days late

What mail provider? My mail to Google and GMX appear in seconds after they are sent. Microsoft product not so fast but still in a minute or two. I take no notice of yahoo. I still have accounts configured but their mail service is so shoddy I do not use them.
