Yesterday, midday, my sent file stopped storing new messages after years of flawless service
I have tried: - closing TB and shutting down laptop and restarting
Under Account Settings> Copies and Folders: unclicking "place a copy in" doing a test and then reclicking "place a copy in" (directed to sent folder)
FWIW: 1.only thing I have done differently lately is create a Template
2. Sent folder works fine on my on-line email ( I normally work with storing locally on my MacBook Air) but on-line email is not TB so likely irrelevant

As described in [question] I am unable to install addons in Thunderbird: when attempting to install an addon, either via the in-app browser or via a file, a pop-up window appears for which "Add" and "Cancel" buttons do nothing (there is no way to move or remove the window without killing the process).
I am opening this question as this problem still persists over a year and many versions later.

Is there a way to schedule a time (daily or weekly) during which Thunderbird doesn't check for new mail?
I have several mail accounts, some for work, some private. I want Thunderbird checking for new mail on my work accounts during my work hours, and pause checking when I get off work. I don't want Thunderbird to check my private mail while I'm at work (or specifically, up until an hour before the end of my workday).
Eg. I'd like to "tell" Thunderbird to check my work account monday to friday from 8am to 5pm, and my private account every workday from 4pm to 8am and every weekend all day. Ideally, clicking on "get new mail" would only fetch mail for the currently unpaused accounts.
I don't want to have to manually pause checking for messages for each account several times a day.
The "check for new messages every ___ minutes" doesn't help.
Disabling notifications isn't a solution - I need the messages (especially work messages) not to be downloaded from the server (or receive notification that there's mail waiting). I'm looking to "disconnect" from work while keeping up to speed with my private communications.

I've installed TBSync with Thunderbird and my O365 calendar is now syncing.
However, my email subfolders are not fully updating.
I have a # of subfolders I've created in O365 but they aren't appearing in TBSync in order to choose them to sync in Thunderbird. I am getting some (what I would call 'standard') subfolders in TBSync to choose such as Contact, Calendar, Tasks, and some other email accounts I have 'sync'd' into O365, but none of the actual email subfolders for the O365 account itself (i.e. 2024 Financials).
In Thunderbird, the only folders I see to sync (Synchronization & Storage > Advanced)are: Inbox, Draft, Sent, and Trash

I've attached a screenshot to illustrate my problem. How do you stop the check box on a deleted email from jumping to an existing email you may not want to delete?

I am using Thunderbird 115.11.1 (32-bit) to manage 6 different email accounts for work and personal. I would like to be able to organize "Collected Addresses" according to the account they were used from.
Eg. I want each account to have it's own unique Collected Addresses address book Collected Addresses - Account 1 Collected Addresses - Account 2 Collected Addresses - Account 3 Collected Addresses - Account 4 Collected Addresses - Account 5 Collected Addresses - Account 6
I've looked online and there are some instructions, but they reference settings that I cannot find. Is there a way to do this?
TIA

How can I turn off the threading of my emails? Its driving me crazy as when an email comes in after a short time it disappears into the threads and then I have to open each thread to find out who sent the email. At one stage there were 6 emails noted near the inbox but no new unthreaded message, all went to respective threads. Very time wasting.

I have several mail accounts connected to my thunderbird Version 115.10.1.
One of them is a account that regularly notifies me if about updates on my homepage. I want to receive those emails, but I don't want a notification about them. I do however want to receive notifications about emails from other accounts.
How can I disable the notifications for only one account?

Hi
Currently the Outlook Web App on Windows and Web offers some sort of option to facilitate moving emails to specific folders by offering a search bar to look for a folder.
Please see image attached to this topic in order to see what i mean. Note: the image is in spanish
Also, here's a link to that same image: https://imgur.com/a/gfA1TcS
Does Thunderbird have something similar like this?
Thank you for your help.

Signature Request...
Don't automatically add the signature to every new message and reply. Provide the option to insert it at the cursor location with a shortcut key (eg: Ctrl/Shift/S).
Allow more than 1 signature. In my business, I use several "canned" statements depending on the recipient, issue, etc. Allow them to be inserted from a drop down list, say. The most used one (default?) would be inserted with Ctrl/Shift/S.
Thank you for your consideration! T-Bird is the best option i've tried since needing to abandon WinMail for lack of support.
Sincerely,
Tuck Lowe WorldClassLodgingPC@gmail.com

I head into settings to fix this. Attached the view of my change while debugging to make it really big.
This does nothing. Thunderbird doesn't change the font, the size, nothing.
I'm starting to think I'm losing my mind.

This is just mind boggling.
Further, there is a "Why" link which should explain any logic to doing this, note there is not, and it explains nothing of the sort.
I have better things to do than run behind thunderbird to delete an extension which thunderbird has allows to "Can't be removed".
Is thunderbird with us ? or against us ?

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝 As a regular here, I have frequently seen requests on how to prevent updates to Thunderbird. For most people, I believe the option found at Settings>General is sufficient. I also believe the default setting to automatically apply updates is appropriate if users do periodic backups. But I respect there are those who have strong feelings on the topic, and those who run a business and rely on stability more than new features. I acknowledge this information may be available elsewhere, and possibly superior in its approach, but this does work. So, here are the steps:
- Create a simple text file called policies.json - Enter this text into the file: { "policies": { "ManualAppUpdateOnly": true, "AppAutoUpdate": false, "AppUpdateURL": "https://yoursiteisnothere.com" } } - create a folder named ‘distribution’ and store it in the folder where thunderbird.exe resides. For Windows, that would be normally be C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\ - place the file called policies.json in the distribution directory - start Thunderbird - to verify this, click Settings>General and scroll down to Updates. There, you should see the words, “Failed to check for updates.” (See attached screenshots for examples.)
If you later decide you want an update, the file or folder must be removed or renamed. If changes are made while Thunderbird is running, you must exit and restart for the change to take effect.
NOTE: My suggestion to persons using this technique is to, at least twice per year, download the latest version, test to your satisfaction along with any addon updates. The intent is to stay relatively current for releases, security, and support. To never update is not recommended.

Hi,
I've been a Thunderbird user since the days of Eudora ;-) and have a configuration question.
When you forward or reply to a message, Thunderbird currently does this: <sender> wrote on <date> <time>:
forwarded message text
Is there a way to change the preamble line, or is it hard-coded?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
