I opened the Firefox 8 certificate store to check on whether the Malaysia Digicert certificates had been removed ... and found the Diginotar certificates in there again.

Is this correct?

Root certificates can not be removed, but the DigiNotar certificates have been changed to an untrusted state and they will not be honored. To verify that on your system:

  1. click Options > Advanced > Encryption > View Certificates
  2. scroll down to DigiNotar
  3. for each of the 4 certificates listed under DigiNotar, individually:
    • click "Edit Trust"
    • all 3 boxes should be un-checked; that renders the certificate untrusted/useless
