I have only experienced this fake update request when using Yahoo.com news/stories. When visiting other sites using Firefox no problems thus far, but this fake malware attempt (see image) occurs when I visit Yahoo.com! I don't take the bait but it pops up almost daily when visiting Yahoo.com, item java script (firefox-patch.js) is always the same but the URL it's coming from changes each time.

Just and FYI to all.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search a good ad / pop-up blocker.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Done all the link suggests yet it still happens, I'm diligent about updates, patches, ad-blocking, etc.. I go to places other than Yahoo.com and nothing happens this malware attempt only happens to me when perusing Yahoo.com. Strange, it's like the malware is somehow loaded in Yahoo.com, but with Yahoo's many security issues it's no surprise.

Hi, a workaround which seems to work for many, is to install an ad-blocker, such as -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin

Or, but this may be less effective - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History#w_how-do-i-remove-a-single-website-from-my-history

Remove History For One Site

Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right-click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any passwords / settings.

It continues, I have worked with Firefox tech support about this, done all they recommend, run several different anti-malware products against all files on PC like Malwarebytes, Iobit's Advanced System Care, McAfee, MS malicious software removal tool and nothing is ever found. This attempt only happens when I'm on Yahoo.com never anywhere else, go figure what's the cause, I haven't yet.

I used Advanced System Care's Powerful Uninstall feature to remove Firefox and shredding all traces of Firefox from my system to no avail. I rebooted, reinstalled Firefox w/Adblock Plus and a couple of days later while simply reading Yahoo.com news feeds it happened again. (see new attached JPG.

The file it attempts to download is always the same, firefox-patch.js, the URL that appears is always changing, notice the odd path.
