Your crash report says;

Process Type plugin Shockwave Flash Version:16.0.0.305

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Hello,

flash player is maybe the bigger problem for firefox users in a couple of years at least. Developers working hard from November 2012 for that trying to make a similar program, probably it is not so easy to create a similar program so soon without problems.

You can see in the next link the Shumway project : http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/

We hope the work of developers for that project to give us positive results soon.

thank you

Bugzilla.mozilla.org is a general issues tracker as it is not a company or such if that is what you mean by sleeping.

a workaround sicne 2012? it seem very long time. workaround nd until 2020? bugzilla did not cancel or deny the bug, the bug is NEW since....? therefore I asked: when will this bug be resolved? yes without sandbox is ok, but then you tell me that without sandbox the pc is more vulnerable. the sandbox was released 2011.

@James: sleeping means that: the bug was accepted 2012. now we are 2015. have I to wait until 2020 or 2023?

@ideato: the similar programm is htm5 = 2004-2015...still not "fully" working. for ustream.com flash is still needed, html5 doest work.

@FredMcD: you see in the link...the bug was filled not by me, but by expert people. they know to update the drivers.

2012-2015- ..... (?) Mozilla: "its due to adobe" Adobe:" its due to fireox". the user: what should to say the user?

this https://quality.mozilla.org/2015/01/disabling-protected-mode-in-firefox-36-beta/ will help? the solution? turn off prtected mode and accept exploit? either exploit or hang?

Flash Protected Mode has been causing hangs and plugin crashes in Firefox on Windows, since the feature was introduced. Mozilla may disable this feature in a future Firefox release and replace it with its own sandbox. See this blog post: https://quality.mozilla.org/2015/01/disabling-protected-mode-in-firefox-36-beta/

These articles include some troubleshooting steps and solutions for Flash-related hangs and crashes:

Thanks for your reply (and for all the replies above!9, much appreciated. I can say that the sandbox (2012? I dont remember exactly the date of the implementation) did not cause problems for me. But 2013 it causes a lot of flash hangs. The problem with minidumps at firefox shutdown (after flash usage) has been resolved by bugbase adobe, ok. Starting with ff33 I notice thse hangs, opening a new tab or by simply clicking a video. Finally: sandbox 2012 was ok, sanbbox 2014 is bad. the gtx650 is not so old. every day: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/9309e593-1a44-404a-a157-a694f2150214 but I am wondering that before ff33 I never had hangs with acceleration and sadbox ON. (ok...two hangs in one year, its ok, not two hangs every day, as today). This is very strange, therefore I am wondering. Nvidia analyzed firefox logs and replied that its not due to the drivers.

I warmly thank you for links. We will see what happens with ff36 with sandbox off. Ff36 will be very important for me since a FF crash (due to ram usage that remains 1000MB even after closing the tabs!) has benn resolved: ff36 resolved fixed write bugzilla.

Flash Protected Mode was disabled by default in recent versions of Firefox 36 Beta but that was just a test. To disable Flash Protected Mode you will need to set the related preference to "true", as follows

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Search for dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode in the list of preferences.
  4. Double-click on the preference to toggle its value from false to true.
  5. Close Firefox and then reopen it to effect the change.

Hi, was this test with FF beta successful? disabling the protected mode may cause exploit... there is a real hope to get this bug resolved? I see that the hang signature F_1152915508 recurs very often, the bug was reopened, but is seems neglect. As Adobe says, disabling Protected Mode just for testing purpose not for ever... I am skeptical for a good solution regarding the relationship fireofx-flash. But I still dont understand why I was fine in the past with sandbox on. A very hard problem, fast so hard as with ram usage when scrolling down a facebook photoalbum....

today again https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1bbcf5d5-aa7a-4798-bc1c-a26df2150219 therefore I am very interested to know the results of the tests with ff36beta.

more options

Did you try disabling Flash Protected Mode? The "test" to disable it by default in Firefox 36 Beta ended. I don't have details on the results but there is an assigned bug to disable Flash Protected Mode when a Flash hang occurs (1133003) and anther assigned bug (1133000) to enable users to toggle the setting to disable Flash Protected Mode in the UI (see Bugzilla Etiquette before commenting in bug reports).

You can still disable Flash Protected Mode yourself, via about:config , using the steps I gave earlier, which are also given in the article, Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again under the sectiion, Disable Flash Protected Mode.

Yes this is not as secure as leaving Flash Protected Mode enabled but you can always set Flash to "Ask To Activate" until Firefox includes its own sandbox in a future version. See: Set Adobe Flash to "click to play" on Firefox .

yes turning off the protected mode is a "diplomatic" solution ;) security vs. functionality: a good question for the users (not for developers).

I know it's not a perfect solution but could you let us know if disabling Flash Protected Mode "solves" your problem with Flash hangs/crashes ?

more options

I will try it. It will be harder now because the festival went out, therefore flash usage is here less than in previous week (fast tht whole day), but I will try ;) perhaps it is not so hard because with protected mode on I go hang simply open a new tab or simply clicking a link in youtube.

Hi,

disabling protected mode it seems good! At the moment I dont see https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1bbcf5d5-aa7a-4798-bc1c-a26df2150219

....but I see: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/a87d71f7-e94f-4386-b767-408552150219 !!!!!!!!!!!! (No related bugs)

oh my god......

(

but the main question is: 2012: good 2013: good 2014 (until november) : good why all these problems arised in november 2014?? this is the main question....what changed? why in the past (even with protected mode ON!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!) I had 2 hangs/year while now I have 2 hangs/day (using the same sites, the same behaviour) ???? ????

[ ok just wait please 5 years (in the meantime I learn engineery at the university, then I hope that I will be able to handle with this plugin, but its not sure :)  ;) ]

When Flash is running in Protected Mode, you will see two "FlashPlayerPlugin_<version>.exe processes in Windows Task Manager (e.g., “Flashplayerplugin_16_0_0_305.exe”). When Protected Mode is disabled, you won't see those processes.

Did you restart Firefox after disabling Flash Protected Mode in about:config? If not, try again.

As to why you started having these problems with Flash Player, I really don't know but Windows Vista is an old system and it's possible with the latest Flash Player updates, your system can't handle it.

Did you ever try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Flash settings? See Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again under "Disable Hardware Acceleration in Flash" ... which links to: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

The new crash report flagged:

FlashPlayerPlugin_16_0_0_305.exe

winphook.dll = Application using this process: Unknown

I did a lot of searching only getting the above. But then I found;

http://www.boostbyreason.com/resource-file-33076-winphook-dll.aspx

winphook.dll is loaded as a DLL (dynamic link library) module within the process isw.exe (AT&T Internet Security Wizard by AT&T)

more options

Hi, thanks for your reply and the search. I searched in my C:\ and I dont find winphook nor isw.exe in my OS. perhaps they are loaded from internet, because I dont find this process here. (I have to say that this crash happened once only, whil the other happens once a day, while in the past it happened twice a year, and abobe tells me that flash 16 is fully compatible with Vista.

(my antivirus tells me that http://www.boostbyreason.com is a malware page, therefore it has been blocked).

comodo killswitch did not find those processes/service, and at the crash I used firefox windows mailclient and vlc player.

I just tried http://www.boostbyreason.com/ but got no alarm.

I did get this;

  1. 1
  2. 2
  3. 3
