I apologize for the unhelpful summary line, but I am totally new to Thunderbird and the Unified Inbox is acting so strangely that I don't have any simple way to describe it.

Many (but not all) of the emails are displayed twice in the list of messages.

When I delete a message that isn't doubled, the message disappears from the inbox (as it should).

But when I delete one of the doubled messages ONE disappears as it should and on the other Thunderbird clears the From and Subject fields and changes the date to 12/31/1969, 19:00 -- the changed entry stays in the list and the body of the email is still shown in the lower pane. The only way I can get rid of the message is by selecting another folder (ANY other folder) then when I return to the Unified Inbox the deleted messages will be gone from the list.

I can't believe that this is how Thunderbird is supposed to work, so I assume I have something configured incorrectly (although nearly everything is still at the defaults that the installation gave me).

Hello, I have tried to send several email replies using thunder bird but they fail because the smtp server times out. Or cannot be reached. I am a new Starlink subscriber and am wondering if that could have anything to do with the issues. The software is on my dell computer running windows 10. Any help or suggestion is appreciated. Cut the cable a couple months ago. Have been using Firefox/Tbird many years. Stopped being able to access old email address of 25 years a couple days ago. When opened Tbird would always got to old email and say "couldn't log in" or something. Would cancel out of that twice, click on new address and collect new address email. Old email was always there, used it as reference during transition. At settings chose new as default and deleted old address. Looks like the boxes checked would not have deleted old email but it's gone. 3500+ of them. No warning, message, choice, nothing. took zero time. Cannot change in Mozilla login to new email address. Tried Tbird import tool, could seem to figure it out. Also need to update email in Mozilla. Help. Tks. x@yahoo.com

I'd like to reduce the size of my profile file xxxxxx.default . it is currently 17.2 GB. If I delete several of the folders in the "Local Folder" (example "sent mail 2010"), will the file size shrink or does it only expand to fit the folders.

It's been months since I have been able to access my Thunderbird email. I have forgotten my password and tried all the self-help instructions, but nothing worked. Please help me.

ich erhalte meine e-Mails auf meinem Laptop via Thunderbird. Als ich letzte Woche nach einer einwöchigen Abwesenheit meine e-Mails checken wollte, zeigte mir das System 178 erhaltene e-Mails an. Als ich meinen Posteingang öffnete, zeigte es nur 78 an, die auch existierten. Es fehlten somit 100 e-Mails. Liegt das an Thunderbird oder muss ich meinen e-Mail-Supporter (1&1) kontaktieren? Da ich kein "Computer-Freak" bin, bin ich ziemlich hilflos und würde mich freuen, wenn ich von Euch Hilfe bekommen könnte.

I accidentally deleted a folder (that I thought was empty) which ended up having important saved emails in it. I thought I had transferred the emails to a new folder...but unfortunately they were still in the old folder. I tried everything I knew how to do but I have not been able to find the folder any where.

  I still have Windows 10.  I'm dreading upgrading to Windows 11.

I'm afraid to "go look for the Thunderbird information". I tried that once and then couldn't get back to where I was and had to start all over again.

My computer crashed and so restarted it, when went to open thunderbird got a couldn't load XPCom message. Followed directions to reinstall thunderbird without using the uninstaller. When I installed it, I reloaded my email to set it up. I have lost all my latest emails, only getting them from 15 years ago. and today, nothing from this year. All my folders have also gone and my contacts.

Can someone please help, how do I fix it, I have emails from this year that I need to keep.

When I enter a search string such as "75-0098-01", the search returns messages with only partial matches like "0098".

Is it possible to use a search string and get back results that find only that complete string?
