I have lost all of saved data to Pocket. How can I retrieve it?

I was on a college university web site and wanted to save the search I had made. When I clicked on the pocket icon for saving it gave me information as if I needed to set up as a new user. I then closed the site and clicked on View Pocket List and the same window of being a first time user showed up. My entire list of things saved is all gone. Is there a way to retrieve it. Also why would something like that happen?
