Firefox doesn't load pictures or styles anymore; pages are rendered solely as text with hyperlinks

Firefox 3.6 started acting weird this week. It worked fine last week. This week, it won't display pictures that are accessed by a simple tag, and it won't apply any styles at all. Everything is rendered as plain old text. Links are blue and underlined, but that's all. It's not the fault of the webpages. Some of them haven't changed in years, and they still work in other browsers. (Want an example? how about www.mozilla.org?)

All of a sudden today I have the same fault. I am using version 3.6.6 and many pages appear as basic text with links (No Page Style, its just a long left sided list). Sometimes it will revert if I close Firefox down and restart it.. but that's not consistent. Also manually changing the 'Page Style' from the View Menu makes no difference.

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

this fixed my problem I think that what it was:

   * For Firefox, under the "Content" tab, make sure that "Load images automatically"
and "Enable JavaScript" are both checked (both are checked by default)

and that there are no exceptions.

I had this problem and it was even a problem on Internet Explorer. I couldn't see some Flash sites. I cleared all cookies and it seems to be fine now.
