Every time, every day that I open firefox I get an update message. I have updated several times. What gives. Is this flawed message in itself?

It is true that Firefox 144 is out now (up to 144.0.2). If your Firefox know you should get that version but updating doesn't get that version, it sounds like something is stuck somewhere. At some point, you might need to download a "full" installer to update the program. It should automatically detect and reuse your existing settings without having to uninstall or make a backup, but you could do those things if you like:
