Getting PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR very frequently on lots of legitimate sites

I run into this at least once a week, on sites that I know are completely legit, including sites that I recently visited successfully. Once it starts happening for a given site, I can't figure out how to get past it and regain access.

I've asked other folks to visit the same sites at the same time, and they can get through. I've tried accessing them on other devices on the same wifi network, and get through just fine. But I can't get to them any more on my main computer.

I've tried clearing cache and deleting cookies and data, and that hasn't helped.

I'm on Windows 10, and (now) Firefox 100.0. I'm in the UK, using Sky internet -- I don't know if that's relevant, but I didn't notice this problem before I moved here (from the US) last year.

As I said, I can still access the sites on another device (an iPad) on the same wifi, so I don't think it's the firewall in my router.

I don't have any antivirus installed -- just using Microsoft Defender. And I'm not using a VPN or anything like that. My browser privacy setting is "Standard"/

The only extensions I have installed are Facebook Container and LastPass.

What can I do to fix this? It's breaking the internet for me.

Thanks. I already found a lot of that, and most of it doesn't apply or didn't help when I tried it. The text about security software is particularly irksome because it's the first answer on all of the threads that came up in my search, and I don't use any of that software -- but also, security software is supposed to make things safer, not break all sorts of legitimate sites. I'm talking about sites from major companies and educational institutions -- not fly-by-night or amateur stuff.

The only tips in the links above that I hadn't already tried are the ones about DNS pre-fetching and clearing the DNS cache. The latter didn't help, but switching off the DNS pre-fetching does seem to fix at least one of the sites. I still have to test the others.

To help anyone else who has the same problem and comes up with this thread -- of the five mozilla.org links in the above answer, I think this one is the most useful place to start: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-dont-load-troubleshoot-and-fix-errors

The third and fifth links above don't apply at all to this problem (the error message I'm getting isn't even included in the list of warnings on the fifth link.)

It is annoying that there is no clear explanation of what the PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR message actually means, or what specific conditions cause it to appear. It seems to be the bastard step-child of error messages, not mentioned by name anywhere in any of the Mozilla help pages.
