Hi all!

I'm having an issue where Firefox is only remembering that I'm signed into certain accounts.

Let me explain what I mean:

Firefox has no problem remembering that I've signed into my Google account or my Amazon account. However, every time I close and open Firefox, it reloads three extension pages (evernote, twoseven, and pushbullet if you're curious) as though I had JUST installed them for the first time and asking me to sign in to them.

In addition, if I attempt to use Google's text for web feature, I have to sign back in with my phone (scan a QR code) if I close the window at all, even if I select the option for Google to "Remember this browser".

Obviously these could be separate issues, but they seem related to my lay understanding. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hi dbben!

I restarted in safe mode, and that seems to have solved the problem for Google's text for web feature. I can't be certain if it's solving the issue with Firefox loading the extension windows every time I boot up or me needing to log in to several different sites every time.

Is there a next step I can take? Would it help if I listed the extensions I use?

It occurs to me it help if I indicated the kinds of screens that are always reloading. For example, I constantly see this screen when I boot up where I give Evernote Web Clipper permission to clip things for me. I then have to constantly log back into Evernote regardless of whether I click "Remember me" or not.

Your Privacy & Security settings may be making the difference. What do you see, for example, if you click on the shield icon in the url bar (at the extreme left) when you load evernote?

A window pops up that says the following:

"Protections for Evernote Web Clipper

Enhanced Tracking Protection is ON for this site

No known trackers to Firefox were detected on this page

Protection Settings: Standard

Protections Dashboard: 186,909 Blocked"

hello patrick,

thanks for the additional information and great job and drilling down to the source of the problem.

what is likely happening is that your app may doing something more than what you believe its doing, such as collecting information behind the scenes. In other words, it may be providing you with a service. But in return for the service is a little spying. But this is not entirely immoral, as Win10 is one big spying machine anyways.

However, it may also be that the app needs updating by its programmers.

In any case, i would suggest for you to consider the app as incompatible and uninstall it. A concern that follows is "uninstalling" will 100% remove it from your system or will there be residuals lingering that will continue to give your system headaches? But later you can do a system scan for malware.

If you need alternative methods to capture web pages, let us know. FF comes with a web page printer that can save the file to disk and for uploading.

Thanks dbben!

I'll definitely try that and see if it solves the problem. That being said, I just realized there was one key bit of information I forgot to add (my apologies!)

I also have Firefox on my work laptop and am signed in with the same account there. Same Add-ons and everything. The work laptop DOESN'T have this problem, only my personal laptop does. That would seem (to me) to indicate that the problem might not be in the Add-ons.

Thoughts?

The situation is common whereas one machine is not as perfect as the other. But its difficult to calculate why

You can check that those pages aren't set as multiple homepages.

You can check the homepage setting.

Firefox supports multiple homepages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

You can check for problems with preferences. You can delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename/remove the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
