Is the "urgent firefox update" page that keeps popping up legit?

hello, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff! only download firefox from its official location at mozilla.org - in addition updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything (you can initiate a check for updates in the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > about firefox).
you might also want to run a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and different tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & kaspersky security scan in order to make sure that there isn't already some sort of malware active on your system that triggers these false alerts.

No this .exe is not legit as people have reported getting a virus, trojans or unwanted software after running the fake files with names of Firefox-patch.exe like you encountered.

If you get this popup again can you save the .exe to disk (do not run it) and please upload it to https://www.virustotal.com/ and provide the link after scan. Also Tyler Downer would like a copy if possible as mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/712056#post-69483
Just a small screen shot of the scan results.

The url would have been better. Hmm only 8/42. You sure the scan was finished?
This firefox-patch.exe was 37 / 55 https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/e73820fe8b3c5022b03025657286304365c0d2d8312ccbdd136f8a0ecbe7cad1/analysis/1467413383/
I re-did it and it came back with 24/53: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/12446f2ad470ad093db192821faabac19044814637c3b4889ef5403fc6805b56/analysis/1467588247/
Seems to be two different .exe but used for the same purpose of trying to trick inexperienced Windows users into downloading and running it before scanning it.
