Thunderbird started downloading hundreds of messages it already download. I have the latest update installed. I'm on a desktop Windows 7.
I've been happily using Thunderbird for years, now for a while on a Windows 7 desktop. All of a sudden when I started up the computer today, it started downloading over a thousand messages it had already downloaded. I stopped this by going to settings and unchecking automatically download. This is an @roadrunner.com account. So how do I solve this please? Thanks!

You let the download complete. The usual cause of this is the provider changing the indexing of the mail, so Thunderbird's stored set of references to what is on the server goes out of date. If you want to prevent future such issues, change your settings to remove the mail from the server when it is downloaded. Or use IMAP so the server and Thunderbird synchronize.
