Older emails have disappeared

I recently had a serious virus on my computer and so had to do a fresh install of Windows 7 to get rid of it. I was assured by a friend that it wouldn't effect my Thunderbird mail. But when I re-downloaded the program and put in my details loads of my emails are missing, my sent folder is completely empty and my address book is completely empty too. I am a writer and there was stuff in here that I desperately needed, is there a way I can get all of this back?

The strangest thing is that the only emails that show are ones from the last month but even then there are still loads missing!

Probably you created a new profile. check in explorer under %appdata% \thunderbird\profiles if you have two subdirectories,

I agree with Gnospen, When you reinstalled Thunderbird, it created a new profile for you. Your old profile contain[ed|s] all your old mail. You may have to use profile manager to point TB to the older profile.

Reinstalling Windows 7 should not normally affect Thunderbird mail files. BUT... (I love that word.) BUT... if you had a virus, is it possible that it was inside a mail folder, and the folder(s) has to be removed? A lot of malware is carried by email attachments.

Did you find more then one profile? if so you might rescue all thats in the other profile.

What did you do prior to reinstall win 7? Did you format or use an anti-virus tool? (what kind)

What kind of reinstall did you do? Clean or a repair? Or did you went back to a safety point?
