New Mac. Whenever I shut the power off, Firefox disappears, and I have to download it again. (Same thing happens with Apache OpenOffice.) What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

Thank you, Philipp. I'll give it a try next time Firefox disappears. The steps are different from the regular download instructions. Kindest regards

When you download the installer, keep it in a safe place.

Had a thought, did you check your trash bin?

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Look for the Firefox program, and turn on the Read Only flag. If the program disappears again, you have a bigger issue.

Note that .dmg is not an installer, it is a disk image :-)

on mac, .pkg is an installer package :-)

thanks

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

Open the Firefox disk image file and drag the Firefox program into the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.

Thanks everyone. I'm an old guy and having a hard time following most of this. It isn't in my trash. When I downloaded it the last time, before Philipp's advice, it (and OpenOffice) goes to my hard drive under "Devices" with an eject symbol next to it. Just as if I plugged in a jump drive. It is also in "Applications," and I access it from the Dock. I can't find a "read only flag," ".dmg," ".pkg," or a "DMG folder." I appreciate all of your help, but I'll probably have to continue the way things are. Too difficult for me. Thanks!
