Every time Mozilla does an update of Firefox or Thunderbird, I have trouble sending emails. This time seems to be really bad. It has been almost 5 days and no success. I have had others here say that my settings are correct and I have checked to see if it could be my Norton firewall. Actually, this latter I was not able to check really well. I need my email!! Help!

re : Norton firewall. Actually, this latter I was not able to check really well.

I use Norton Anti-Virus/Firewall. Sometimes, after an update, Norton still thinks it can allow only the previous version. I then have to close Thunderbird and access Norton. Settings > Network > Smart Firewall > Program Rules Locate Thunderbird and set to 'Allow' On one occassion, I have had to block, ok and then reset to Allow.

I have Norton's Smart Firewall and finally just went directly to them. The woman who worked for me on the problem, opened the firewall and nothing changed -- no emails could be sent. So then she actually uninstalled my Norton Security with Backup and we tried to see if my mail would go out and the answer was "no" and the exact same error message. So the problem with me at least is not Norton. She also said that Norton does not support Thunderbird. Not being a computer genius, I was surprised. She said that Norton does not support any web based email systems. Is that what you thought?

She has no knowledge. I've never heard such tosh. I would not trust anything that person ever says again. Always get another opinion. Norton will scan any file on your computer. Norton will protect against viruses, spyware, malware and other online attacks. Maintains your privacy. Avoids unsafe websites and suspicious downloads And much more depending upon the product.

I would not advise you to uninstall Norton. Set it to allow Thunderbird as per instructions.

re: Every time Mozilla does an update of Firefox or Thunderbird, I have trouble sending emails. If the issue occurs immediately after an update of software on your computer, you must check as per instructions to make sure Norton is allowing the current version. It is doing a job. It detects a change, so stopping unauthorised software from running. This is good protection, even if a little annoying on occasions.

In Norton, it is not good enough to set it to Auto', Thunderbird must be set to Allow. see image below

Can you receive emails ok ? Is it only a sebd issue?

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 Missing or literal domains not allowed. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.

This is the entire message. Also, when I go into Thunderbird and troubleshoot, I get the message that Windows XP SP 2 has been corrected. I don't have Windows XP but Windows 7.

To go back to a previous message, not one of these places exist for me. Maybe the new Norton Security with Backup (that I was instructed to get) is very different.

Please post this information: In Thunderbird

   Help > Troubleshooting Information

There is no "help" nor is there "troubleshooting information." If I right click on Thunderbird, I get "troubleshoot compatabilities."

Do not select 'Include account names' Have never seen "account names."
click on 'Copy text to clipboard'

It is like we are in a different language. I have been unable to follow ANY of the previous instructions. My "smart firewall" turns off in a column on the left and all it needs is a click. I have none of the windows you copied to your earlier message.

I never responded -- yes I seem to be able to receive emails ok through Thunderbird. When I go to the Verizon site, I can both send and receive.

Toad, here is the OP's first thread on the same subject. They posted the troubleshooting info there so not sure why they can not figure it out this time.https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1049283 In researching this error I find mostly Version customers with the issue. I have not found any resolutions. I still think firewall but not having any luck getting those settings checked as you see here.

re: not understanding instructions, it sounds like you have not enabled the Menu Bar.

In Thunderbird you will find life much easier when seeing all the toolbars.

Click on the menu icon - it has 3 bars. Hover the mouse pointer over 'Options' a new drop down appears, select 'Menu Bar'. then you will see the Menu Bar above the tabs It shows: 'File, Edit, View, Go, Message, Tools, Help.'

Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server you will only have the one verizon smtp

I looked at the information you provided in the other question. Server name, port, authentication and connection security look ok. What do you have in the 'User Name' ? Do you have the full email address or just the first part before the @ ?

The other thing to check is the firewall settings in the Actiontec Router. But this is not really a forum for dealing with your router. you should find the model number somewhere on your Actiontec router. There are different models, but sometimes the settings can be very similar. you should be able to do a google search for your model. I located this pdf for the GT701D model: see chapter 5. https://www.actiontec.com/products/manuals/GT701D_User_Manual_NCS_DSL_Modem-v1.0_3.0.4.1.1.pdf

This is the actiontec website https://www.actiontec.com/prod_page.php

Locate your model as shown on the router. then find model on website. they may have a user guide for the model.

I got the new router, installed it and not one thing was any different from before. I still cannot sent out emails and I get the same message:

"The mail server responded: 5.7.1 Missing or literal domains not allowed. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

I have essentially decided to do what one Verizon tech suggested and that it to get my mail off Thunderbird. I just have not had time and have used my Verizon web mail as a replacement, but I hate having to go back and forth and not having my files on Verizon. I absolutely cannot believe there is no key person affiliated with Thunderbird that cannot resolve this problem. Someone is putting together the updates and knows what is in them. Did the other people who had this same problem get theirs resolved?
