A Bing search shows;

When does this come up? How often? Have you had any other problems? Have you tried to open the file? Don't open it now. How large is the file?

Press <Control> J to open the Download Manager. Is the file listed? Right click on it. What information is there?

Are you using any other download managers? What about other programs that can access the web?

I get this when I play Words with Friends in Facebook. i don't get it when I am in Facebook, only after I play words and exit.

When I select OPTIONS and then ADVANCED and then NETWORKS , there is an area that says "these websites may store data offline" and that is where this URL is. I highlight it and say remove and it goes away but is back the next time I play word.

Any thought? I have not downloaded it and won't.

It looks like an issue with 'Words with Friends' you should contact its support.

Let us know what happens.

Okay. So HOW do I remove it? Isn't this part of Mozilla? I thought that ADVANCED page under OPTIONS was part of it. What does that mean where it says "these web sites may store data offline??

Thanks

Note that Akamai is one of the CDN (Content Delivery Network) servers that a website can use to store data.

Try to clear the cache.

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

I deleted cache and cookies. same problem. I will logoff and try again tomorrow. I am concerned about the site that says Nepal relief as was stated earlier by FredMcD reply

Do you get any results if you search the history for this link?

I just searched my history and the only reference is when I searched for the url in Bing. I have submitted requests for help in Facebook and Zinga support, and Macafee but have not heard anything from them.

I have run scans with Macafee and Malwarebytes and no viruses are detected.

Now what??? Thanks

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

I have sent a request for help to the Akamai support desk. They are the company that owns the CDN. The URL in question is specifically for Facebook. That's the good news. The bad news is I think it may be corrupt because of the Nepal relief reference. I'm hopeful that Akami will provide some guidance. I would like to keep this post open until I here something from someone who can tell me it is safe to use or not.
