Flash keeps crashing, with no other extension, in a pristine, vanilla Firefox, on all three machines I maintain. For the record, these are a custom LGA 775 Asus motherboard from about 6 years ago, a similarly old Dell Optiplex of a similar age, and a brand new HP Spectre x360. The graphics systems and their drivers have no similarities. Firefox just doesn't work with flash on these machines.

Forum questions about this keep recurring, and keep getting marked as solved, when they are clearly not! No solution is posted, just a flag for 'solved' which no one bothered to remove quicklu enough.

Is there a silver bullet for this that I am missing, or should I just uninstall Flash and rely on HTML5? Has Firefox stopped supporting Flash and I've missed it? Is there a clash between Java or another common pluggin? I can't find any dependencies like that when I try activating pluggins. If Flash is the only pluggin it crashes! I cannot even keep it running long enough to turn off the acceleration on the Adobe Flash page where you are supposed to right click to access options. Edge seems to work perfectly on the Flash sites I need to access, but I don't like not using Firefox.

Is there a fix, please???

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings, I don't want to step on your question but I have been having the same problem with Adobe Flash crashing. I also get many Tab Crashes. Sites that use Adobe Flash don't work. Tried everything. Here are my 5 latest Crash IDs and maybe this might help figure out the problem. Windows10; Adobe Flash 23; FF 50.0.2. Using FF SafeMode does not solve problem. Uninstalled/reinstalled FF and Adobe Flash does not help.

I have tried both of these. The HP laptop has it's own service agreement and update software, including driver updates. I have exhastively updated the NVidia Geforce card I have on my main machine, which experiences the same crashes. It also crashes on another old Dell box, with an old Geforce card. All updated, all system file checked, all crash on Flash.

Flash is trash. Most sites use HTML5 in place of Flash nowadays. It's 2016, you should be okay with Flash uninstalled and websites shouldn't appear broken. Plus I remember reading Mozilla and Adobe themselves were abandoning Flash.

From The Inquirer:

Mozilla has already confirmed that, like Google, it will abandon support for all NPAPI (Netscape) plug-ins other than Flash from March 2017. This effectively kills Silverlight and Java too, although an extended support release will be available until 2018 for those needing a little longer. The need to kill off Adobe Flash has long been recognised. The player required 78 patches in December 2015 alone to cover security bugs in the code. The blog post from Mozilla also demonstrated that the expected crash rate of Firefox has reduced significantly since key sites such as YouTube switched to HTML5.

The Demise of FlashPlayer ? As Moses explains I am sure a lot of people will be glad when HTML5 finally replaces problematic FlashPlayer. A couple of the Mozilla Blogs about this issue (They in turn link to additional related articles).

Bug 1145613 - Crash in [@ ReleaseData ] & ... That related to one your Crash Signatures. It seems that issue is under investigation but is and proceeding slowly Some Things you could do If you find you are able to reliably reproduce crashes whilst

  1. In Firefox's safe mode (See Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode )
  2. and with only one tab open
  3. With Flash's protected mode turned off ( seeAdobe Flash protected mode in Firefox )

Then it could be worth considering filing a FlashPLayer of Mozilla bug. Let's see what the Crash IDs are that you see. The important point may however be that there is good reason to believe some of your Crashes will not occur if you disable Protected Mode.
