I HATE all social media: facebook, twitter, instgram, ect. How can I COMPLETELY ban them from my internet viewing?

I want to be able to ban all social media, I don't want to see buttons, links, adverts... nothing.

I want to be able to go onto the internet and live in blissful ignorance to their existence. So I want Firefox to detect and instantly remove or ignore all of these links/buttons before I see them.

So there's no confusion: I want them banished into the darkest corners of hell, with no possibility of return.

How can I achieve this?

Unfortunately, it is a very big process for an add-on or Firefox to scan each website for links or content from certain domains, nor is it a feature in large demand at the moment.

You can use an add-on like BlockSite to block navigation to certain websites, but I don't believe that it will remove links to these websites from other pages. Of course, you are free to browse all of the add-ons available for Firefox and see if you can find an add-on or combination of add-ons with the features that you require.

However, the feature that you are looking for is not included natively into Firefox at this time.

Many social network features are blocked from other sites by add-ons such as Disconnect, Ghostery, and Privacy Badger.

If the standard code for adding a "facebook like button" is:

<script>(function(d, s, id) {var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net /en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.7"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));</script> div class="fb-like" data-href="https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/" data-layout="standard" data-action="like" data-show-faces="true" data-share="true"></div>

Then surly the running motif in that code that thousands of webpages and developers use is:

connect.facebook.net developers.facebook.com

So couldn't a simple deny code be written for such standard code and for each cookie cutter code these sites offer out to the web developing world?

I'm not a web developer (If I was I would have already thought of a solution HAHA!) but why can't a code be written that goes something like:

if "connect.facebook.net " or "developers.facebook.com" is detected, then ignore script. Do not load onto page.

That way Firefox is only doing what Adblock and other similar programs do, except this time they are targeting social media annoyances instead of adverts.

I can override a page's font, I can override a page's java and such, why can't I override a page's social media links?

If you want to suggest changes to future versions of Firefox, you can submit those here:

https://input.mozilla.org/feedback/firefox

Any such changes are likely to take a long time.

If you want to get comments on whether Adblock Plus filter rules can do what you want to do, you could try their forum: https://adblockplus.org/forum/

If you want to block scripts from specific sites with a minimum of having to make exceptions for other sites, check out the YesScript extension.

Thanks the-edmeister

ublock is awesome, I am able to block a whole lot now!

I can use ublock on mouse over events too. I mouse over to make the social buttons appear, right click, leave the cursor where it is and use the arrow keys to select Block Element and hit Create!!

That works soooo well!! Thanks again.

AdBlock used to make the social media buttons go away, but they have reappeared recently.

Are the Social filter list subscriptions still enabled and are they up-to-date?

I just refreshed them & even added a couple. But when I re-open the page in question they are gone. But they didn't go away by Refreshing the page ! But that page was a sales confirmation page, so I can't exactly open it again.
