this happened about a week ago , i stopped being able to make calls with gmail , told me i needed to install the plugin that was already installed , i just tried to fix it now but found that there appears to be no fix so i have to ask here now for one....

i tried deleting the parent.lock file (was empty anyways so nothing there) , looking at the page info , in the advanced options , nothing is even showing anything google on my firefox anymore (Which would normally be a good thing but i want this plugin for making calls)

even stranger is when i tried to search for the plugin in firefox's plugin list from my plugins page it was there and i could click to install it directly from firefox , which it said it did , and then it disappeared , it wasn't installed , and now it wont appear in the search results anymore , even after i uninstall the plugin from my computer altogether......

i have no words for the kinds of computer problems i regularly have to deal with.....

The 64-bit build of Firefox can only run the Flash and Silverlight plugins. If Google Talk/Hangouts is important to you, please switch back to the standard 32-bit build of Firefox. I suggest doing it this way:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 46.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) For maximum plugin compatibility, choose the 32-bit version.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder as follows (usually only one of these is applicable to your system):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\MFx64

...or...

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\MFx64

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that MFx64 folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \MFx64\Plugins
  • \MFx64\browser\plugins

Success?

ah thanks , sry for the late re , but indeed that was the problem , and now i see a whole bunch more plugins i wasn't even aware i didn't have access to before , would have been helpful if the program gave some indication that that simple thing was the problem , the current about for this firefox version doesn't even specify if it's x32 or what....

Thanks for reporting back. I think there is a place in Firefox where it appears, but since I still use the normal 32-bit version, I haven't looked up where it would be.

Do you remember how you even found the 64-bit version? It's somewhat hidden on Mozilla's site, so maybe from an article somewhere.
