sync error while sync unkown error

Since the 13th i have be unable to sync my windows 7 PC it has the latest version of Firefox (37.0.1). Sync attempts to work but fails with "Sync encountered an error while syncing  : unknown error. Syn will automatically retry this action" - but never manages to . I have disconnected sync and relogged back in with the same result . I read somewhere about error logs which i attempted to attach to the uploaded images button but it wont accept a. txt file.

Can you open the .txt file and then copy and paste the contents into a comment here? That may help in determining the cause of this issue.

This forum software butcher's txt files with unnecessary line wraps making it harder to read.

The logs indicate that your bookmarks database (places.sqlite) is corrupt.

Back up your bookmarks and then try restoring to a date before the sync stopped working.

History menu > View All History > Import and Backup button at the top > Backup... save the file to your desktop.

Then History menu > View All History > Import and Backup button at the top > Restore > pick file to before sync had an issue.

Your sync should work now.

After confirming that sync works, open the bookmarks file saved to your desktop. Open any links that are missing from the bookmarks you restored to. Re-save those bookmarks.

Let us know if this fixes the issue.

Hello. I have same this problem. when i want select a backup from older day, it say to me Unable to process backup. and failed.

It seems even the backups are corrupt. What you can do is export bookmarks to HTML, from the bookmarks popup (Click the Bookmarks icon > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup) then perform a Clean reinstall and then import bookmarks from HTML (using the Import menu item just above "Export to HTML")

A "Clean Reinstall means removing the Firefox program files and then reinstalling Firefox. Please follow these steps:

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. Did you try to delete the places.sqlite file?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

hello I have maybe a similar issue, since a while, very often I get the sync error notice in the FF-statusbar. There is something about: NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI What to do? I have 3 sync devices: Mac OS 10.10.5, Windows 8.1-64 and Android CM12 Mac and Windows complain often, Android not, but guess only because there is no error message or it is supressed. My Logfile is too long to paste completely, so I put only the error part here:
