I try to watch shows on mtv.com and I can watch them fine up to the first commercial break. Then all I get is a black screen and it says content will return shortly, which it never does. It use to just play a few commercials and then take you right back to the show, but now it doesn't. After searching for a fix on the internet, it sounds like it is due to some type of ad blocking software, but I haven't installed any add ons or anything like Ad Blocker. So, I'm not sure how to fix this issue. Is there a setting that I need to change to allow the commercials to be played? Hope this is a quick and easy fix that someone can help with. Thank you!

Usually, problems with videos not playing like this are a result of Ad Blockers (Adblock Plus, No Script, etc), or not allowing cookies and sometimes not allowing 3rd party cookies. FoxsportsGo is like this. I have to go into Tools -> Options -> Privacy and change Accept 3rd Party cookies to Always. (you only see this if History is set to "Use Custom Settings for History" as I normally have 3rd party cookies set to "From visited". I also have disable Adblock Plus for the FoxsportsGo page.

I do have my cookie settings set to Accept 3rd Party Cookies - Always...and I don't have Adblock Plus. Any other ideas?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
