Downloads running at 0 bytes/sec, not completing, and I am unable to cancel them . How do I cancel/delete current downloads and restore ability to download?

Posted

Sometime in the past week, I noticed a download was not completing. I tried to download several other internet files and none will download and I now have 5 downloads in progress. None are completing and saving to default folder. The Mozilla icon in the start up tray is partially green. When I quit Firefox, I receive a message indicating they will cancel if I quit; however, they don't cancel and I am unable to manually clear or cancel them using the CTL-J keys. All other Mozilla functions appear to be normal.

Question owner

There is no time indicated on the download button. There is a black down arrow over a green and black rectangle which indicates some progress was made on the downloads. All of the files indicate there is undetermined time remaining; however 4 of the 5 files indicate all of the file has been processed. I have located the files that indicate they are complete (based on bytes downloaded) in a temp folder. They have not been moved to the default download folder. 2 of the 4 files that are in the temp folder are PDF files and when I try to open them there is a message from Adobe Reader that indicates they can't be opened because they are either a non-supported file type or the file has been damaged.

Possibly the downloads.sqlite file in the profile got damaged. Try closing Firefox, moving downloads.sqlite from the profile to the desktop, then launch Firefox again. It will make a new downloads file, and hopefully, downloads will work normally again. If that does not help, you can replace downloads.sqlite from the desktop back to the profile again, otherwise delete it.

Current Firefox versions on longer use the downloads.sqlite file, but store the download history in places.sqlite as part of the history, so you can skip the above.

You can create a new String pref on the about:config page via the right-click context menu. Name: browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL Value: https://sb-ssl.google.com/safebrowsing/clientreport/download?key=%GOOGLE_API_KEY%

Bug 1057764 - Download Manager regression in FF32 beta 9 update

This issue will be fixed in the upcoming Firefox 32 release and is fixed in the current Firefox 32 RC.
