Hi,

I had applied the settings to disable the new urlbar features, but as of version 77 these no longer work.

I absolutely hate this change; it does nothing useful, it interferes with viewing the page, and it very much feels to me like change for the sake of change.

If someone can pass this on to whoever makes these unilateral decisions :

Don't make changes to the user interface that are not optional. How do they not understand that changing the UI for hundreds of millions of people is not a good idea?

So my question is, how do I disable the new urlbar "features" and return to a plain static one?

I hate it when I click on the url-field and its size change.

It wasn't there in former firefox versions and I did not miss it. It changed some time ago. Any decent software development would have introduced his new feature and provided a "classic" option to turn it off. Not so firefox. Mozilla introduced it and I had to google how to get the old behaviour back. No option.. I have to go to about:config, ignore teh warnings, find some weird options and set them to false and the mozilla turned that off too. Now the was to change it is to set up a css-file, got to about:config again to make firefox actually read that file, place some mystery css-code in there and it still does not work!

Very annoying, an outstanding example of bad practice how to introduce new features and take away users choices.

So: How to stop URL bar from enlarging on click?

I had set the about:config settings after 75 came out to fix the address bar. Today I got 77.0.1 and now the address bar seems broken again. When I mouse over it, there is no longer a down arrow to click and show my common sites. If I click in the bar and then delete everything, the list of common sites appears. If I click away and click back into the blank address bar, now I have to hit the down arrow to get the list to appear. I need a way to get the down arrow back so the address bar works as expected.

These config options are all set to false:

   browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
   browser.urlbar.update1
   browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
   browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips
   browser.urlbar.update1.view.stripHttps

I don't like the megabar, and I have looked around to see if there are any fixes for the most recent Firefox 77 update that forces that user to have it (like at least one other update, it just assumes that people like it). I have tried using the userChrome.css file, but that didn't work. I have also tried going into about:config, which also didn't work. Is there any possible way to say 'I never want to see this megabar again in my life'? Or a way to tell the devs that it should NOT be a default option on new updates? Or a way to turn it off that will always be around, unlike the about:config deal? Any help would be great. I attached an image of the megabar.

This problem is not new. Every time I've gotten fed up with Chrome and have fled to Firefox I've had this problem... I'm talking years! Screenshots are attached.

If I just open Gmail, fonts display correctly in my inbox. If I click on an email to open a website, or type something into a Google search, I get what's attached. I have none of these problems using Chrome, Safari, or doing a Yahoo search.

I don't know if it's a font conflict? I've cleared the cache and cookies and restarted. I've opened Firefox in Safe Mode... the issue persists. Our Mac Book Pro laptop using Firefox as the browser also does not have any issues.

I hope someone has some experience with this so I can FINALLY fix this. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Ever since I deleted my history, Bookmarks will not allow me to bookmark a page. When I click "Bookmark this page," nothing happens. The Star in the address bar is not highlighted and when I click it, it doesn't respond. When I checked my Preferences, everything is setup correctly. I don't know how long this has been happening, but I noticed it the other day. I have refreshed Firefox, and it didn't help. I have the newest version of Firefox. I only mention the deleting history in the beginning of the post for context. Thanks.

Hello!

For the past few days my Firefox randomly crashes, specifically - tab crashes. Sometimes it is local news website, there was one fullscreen video that crashed that tab 2 times, and even YouTube tab has crashed.

Hi,

I've encountered my fair share of bugs. I'm also disabled, so I need a lot of safety and accessibility fixes to use any browser.

Debugging advice often involves ""safe" mode," which disables some safety and accessibility tools, or "refresh Firefox," or otherwise using new profiles, which require me to set up the safety and accessibility tools before I can do anything. (For example, by default Firefox uses blinking cursors, autoscroll, and smooth scrolling, all of which trigger my migraines.)

In the past I've sometimes copied specific items, or cleared out a new profile folder and copied everything from an already-set-up profile folder.

Are there better or worse ways to copy bookmarks, saved passwords, about:config settings, user css, add-ons, and add-on settings?

(The previous time I asked this, I somehow got diverted to the wrong forum.)

Dear community,

Transferring my passwords from an old profile backup (v 49) to a profile in a newer version of Firefox (v 77.01). I'm copying across the logins.json and key4.db files like it says here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile#w_passwords. but it still doesn't seem to show my passwords in the new Firefox version when I look in the preferences. I did happen to notice that the key file version is named 'key3.db' in the old profile whereas the corresponding file in the new profile is 'key4.db'. I don't think they're compatible. My question is can I move my passwords from the old profile to the new profile in Firefox v 77.01? Please can you tell me if I can do it offline/locally like this? I don't want to do it with Firefox sync. I'm currently having problems signing into Firefox sync so that isn't an option.

Kind regards,

Matt

i have seen options regarding the userChrome file but i'm inexperienced and probably messing something up.

any help would be much appreciated.

The first time I noticed the Megabar (I believe it was FF75) I absolutely hated everything about it and ruins the experience using Firefox. I am also not alone in this matter because as soon as the change was established, communities popped within hours to fix the problem. The old way of fixing this eyesore of an issue was the old about:config and changing around the settings then VIOLA! back to normal. Now after the update to 77, the Megabar is back and forced down everyone's throat and the old about:config is no longer the fix to this terrible experience. Literally after an hour of this trashbar being up, videos and guides popped up to try to fix it. Whole communities have been formed to hate this feature and ask Firefox to change it, or at least make it optional to go back. My question is, looking through google has only come up with the chrome.css(?) fix to this mess. Is there any way to change it back to the old url bar without having to go through the chrome.css fix or just uninstalling and reinstalling a previous Firefox or do I have to just migrate to another browser like Opera or Chromium?

I am IT techie, and I need FF help on this. I searched the entire sync issue forum, but of no avail.

I had a Windows 10 update issue so I decided to format my PC. My sync was enabled and all data was synced normally. I went ahead and formatted it, and installed a new copy of Win 10, and all softwares, including FF. Now after syncing for over an hour, I cannot find anything. No history, no bookmarks, no logins, nothing.

This is definitely something to do with your update. I cannot figure anything else out. How can I get my old data back? This is absolutely ridiculous and frustrating.

I have 2 other laptops with FF synced, but they aren't booting up either because of hardware failures. I cannot risk turning them back on, and loosing my FF data from those laptops.

Please advise, how to access my cloud data on FF, or should I switch over to Google chrome because of your incompetency?

Hello, thanks in advance for assistance. I absolutely despise this address bar pop out thing that was added for some odd reason. I searched for a way to remove it, found a solution that involved turning these to false: browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus browser.urlbar.update1 browser.urlbar.update1.interventions browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips It solved my problem, had the bar back to the way I wanted it the day after the update rolled out and its been fine up to this point. Today, I'm using Firefox and the browser closed abruptly, so I clicked to reopen it and get an update. Once its done that awful bar is back again and its telling me to send a crash report. I send the report then go to reapply the solution I used before only to see that they are all still set to false but that bar is still popping out and my easy access drop down of sites I visit most is gone. Please, can anyone help me get rid of this bar. I've tried restarting the browser and no luck. I need a way to return it to how it was, I've tried using the new address bar, don't like it, and I do not want it at all. Again, thanks for any assistance.

Hi,

I have couple of hard drives on Windows 8.1 and while I'm using Firefox; "Windows Explorer.exe" randomly access to $MFT (Master File Table) of other internal or external harddrives, which I don't use at that moment.

I used Resource Monitor and SysInternals to see what happens but I only figured out Firefox triggers an access to $MFT of other hard drives.

As I figured out, sometimes when I open a new tab, or, sometimes after reading a long article on a website and when I open a Youtube tab, or, sometimes after some reading when I download an image; Firefox Browser triggers Windows Explorer.exe and it access to $MFT (Master File Table) of other drives. And they make noise, that's why I'm asking.

I checked if it happens with other browsers or programs; I found that this happens with Firefox or Chrome browser. But not while using Microsoft Edge browser or any other programs.

Windows Search Indexing turned off, PageFile turned off. There is not any programs on other drives. There is no background application and no antivirus. There is no Firefox related files (bookmarks etc) in other drives.

Can you please suggest me anything to find what causes/triggers that or suggest me to how to use properly SysInternals or anything else to see why Chrome and Firefox wants to reach other hard drives? (Such as how to setup a filter in Process Monitor / SysInternals or anything else... )

Thanks for any help.
