Firefox Keeps Crashing After Update To Version 100

Ever since Firefox updated to the new version I've been having constant crashes. I've tried restarting in Safe Mood which doesn't help. Pretty much Firefox will open, say it's not responding, and then by the time it looks like it's about to restore my tabs it crashes. I had to do a refresh and transferred the backup files from an older session which worked, but then it eventually crashed again. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and tried opening my older profile but it keeps happening. I really need to restore my previous session. There's nothing with my computer that seems to be causing it. I did have 2 windows open with about 8,000 tabs total which I'm sure could be part of the reason, but it never really had trouble before and only just started crashing since the update. Is there any way to fix this without starting over? I read that this is a bug that others have dealt with previously.

Some additional information. I'm on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

I've already done a re-install and I tried booting my computer into Safe Mood. While in Safe Mode I was able to restore one of the windows but not the other, and for some reason I couldn't navigate through the tabs. After that it crashed again and I was unable to get anything to come back.

I did yet another clean reinstall and now the profile folder no long shows up at all. In the root/roaming directory it removed all the contents and replaced it with a parent.lock file. Thankfully I had a copy of the folder so I copied over the prior contents, however because there's no longer a folder for it in the local directory it doesn't show up as a profile. I was able to set up a new profile using the prior folder which worked to bring the profile back, but it still crashes. There has to be a fix for this. I really need my windows and tabs back.

I got the profile back by creating a new profile using the folder from the previous profile. But it's still crashing. I've tried everything you've suggested and it still doesn't work. I even tried an opening an older profile which didn't work either. I really hope there's a fix for this, I really need my windows and tabs back.

The new crash reports you posted are the same are the other reports.

Are you able to find the original profile?

Also Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Yes I did find the old profile in the Old Firefox Data. I'm still having the same issues of crashing when trying to open it. We're back to the original problem and nothing has fixed it.

Thank you. I copied the profile folder onto a USB drive and copied it to my laptop. It worked on my laptop because it opened in a different version of Firefox, so it seems that Version 100 is definitely the culprit. When I tried to open it on my Laptop with Version 100 it eventually loaded but either not all the tabs load or one of the windows doesn't, and then it went back to crashing constantly again. The previous version was Firefox 56 that was installed through the Microsoft App Store. It worked there and while it was loading I would get an Unresponsive Script pop-up which said the script responsible was chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:7585, however I kept clicking continue and it eventually all showed up. I unfortunately uninstalled the prior version of Firefox which I should've kept considering it worked there. There must be something going on with Version 100 that is preventing everything from being restored.

FireFox just updated to v106.0.1 (23rd October 2022), now, after 2 minutes of use, it crashes with a blank screen stating it is 'not responding'. Nothing on my laptop has changed apart from the update. I have no interest in diagosing your fault, as common sense tells you that if you change something, and a fault immediately arises, it is the change that is the cause.

Just curious, if you are going to fix it with yet another update, or after 20 odd years, do I just change browser?
