Restore version 78
How do I restore version 78 after Mozilla overwrote it -- and the new version is not compatible with my OS (and I can't upgrade the OS)?

Hi Tom, The team has confirmed that El Capitan users are not being automatically updated to the newer version. There may be something different about your configuration. Given that you've re-installed from a fresh DMG file, you may have already reset any configuration differences, so this may not occur again. If it does occur again, please let us know.

Hi Tom, That shouldn't happen. According to your system details, you're on El Capitan, which Firefox support was discontinued after v78. Are you saying that you were automatically updated to v91?
For now, you can download the latest version for El Capitan using the following link: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/78.15.0esr/mac/en-US/Firefox%2078.15.0esr.dmg
I'll look into why you were automatically updated to an incompatible version.
Is there any reason why you haven't updated macOS? The old version of Firefox will not contain the latest security fixes, so if there's anything you can do to update macOS, that's the best way forward.
Thanks, Chris! That seems to have solved the problem. Re. not upgrading: It's an old MacBook Pro, and it seems I can't upgrade the OS beyond El Capitan.
Too bad if you cannot update the OS as Firefox as of Fx 79.0 and later including Fx 95 and Fx 91 ESR has required Mac OSX 10.12 at minimum to run.
