"places.squlite" has not transferred to the Quantum F-fox; at least, I can't access them. So no old bookmarks! Am using Win7 latest build. "Sqlite

In the transfer pf F-fox to 69.0, 64-bit, my bookmarks haven't transferred. At least not so I can access them. I have the "places.sqlite" in 3 profiles in the AppData folder, all in Roaming, none in Local. All the "places" files are identical. I'm running Win7 latest build. What other info would be helpful? And thanks for being there. Bayard Bastedo

I copied the bookmarkbackups folder of 88z to u34. But there's no change; u34 seems to have rejected 88z. So u34 is sitting there with 88z's backupbookmarks folder in it, but I still don't have my old bookmarks in Quantum.

Hi, the next step is to use Restore. Do the copied in backup files appear on the Restore menu? See: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

Hi Bayard, it's not possible to tell from looking at places.sqlite, or its file size or modification date, what it really contains. Each profile might have different history/bookmarks in its file.

Since you already know how to find your profile folders (under Roaming), could you check each of their bookmarkbackups folders? The files in the folder have the creation date and number of items coded into the file name -- for example, 755 bookmarks and folders backed up yesterday:

bookmarks-2019-09-17_755_gibberish==.jsonlz4

-- which may be useful for determining which is your "real" profile and/or using the best backups to restore bookmarks to other profiles.

Your options could be:

(A) Switch profiles (B) Restore a bookmark backup to a different profile

Profile Switch

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

To test out another profile, you can click its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Restoring a Bookmark Backup

This feature will completely replace your current bookmarks with the contents of the backup file, so please use with caution.

When you are restoring a backup from a different profile, it's more convenient to either (i) copy/paste the backup file into the target profile so it comes up on the menu, or (ii) copy/paste the backup file to the Desktop or Documents so you can access it more easily when using Choose File... to point Firefox to it.

And here's the article to put that all in context: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

Any luck?

Hi jscher2000,

We haven't hit paydirt yet. Here's what I did, but first let me set the scene: 88z8lpll is the old default profile that was rendered useless by the Quantum upgrade, rzmeki5b.default-release is the original new profile, u34mic1n.default is the profile of the re-opened Quantum. I copied the 'bookmarkbackups' folder of 88z to u34. But there's no change; u34 seems to have rejected 88z. So u34 is sitting there with 88z's backupbookmarks folder in it, but I still don't have my old bookmarks in Quantum.

Best, Bayard

What Firefox version last used the '88z' profile if you check this in the compatibility.ini file in this profile folder ?

Are that compressed .jsonlz4 backups or even older uncompressed .json backups ?

The 88z file comes from Firefox 69.0. Am still working on Restore. Bayard

Success! The articles you led me to did the trick. Thank you both!
