Why should I sync, if only one device? (Don't make me read 1MM words to find this out...)

1/ Earlier tonight, I found two posts which reported similar complaints/questions, but I have no clue how to get back to that series of posts! It shouldn't be that difficult to navigate around in a community support forum, should it?

2/ Like others' complaints about Mozilla's nagging over syncing, I can't understand why I would want to sync my one device -- a slow, retarded laptop with a single-core processor to my one device. What am I missing about the concept of "sync"?

3/ Isn't there a humane way which Mozilla can use that can disable the sync-nagging?

Many thanks, JES3003 / Configuration folllows: OS = Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Build 7601 Using Google OneDrive for partial backups and storage of infrequently-needed files and documents Laptop with a single-core processor -- AMD Athlon 64, model TF-20,1.6GHz; 3.0Gb RAM; 160Gb hard disk drive; ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics Adapter; Two standard USB 3.0 ports; using a second monitor = Dell E198WFP(Analog)

There no reason to use Sync for one solitary device. And user who do try to use Sync in lieu of "real backups" eventually regret using Sync for that purpose, by losing their data when they format their hard drive or re-install their operating system ...

Mozilla suggestions are "marketing" for Sync, that appear with every installation and with every Firefox update. Just smile and ignore those messages when they appear.

Hi JES3003, I agree there is no point setting up Sync if you have nothing to Sync with. You might benefit from a Firefox Account to use other services in the future, but there's no rush either way.

Q: Where and how are you getting nagged?

If you want to turn off the messages at the bottom of the built-in Firefox Home / New Tab page, those are called snippets.

You can manage those and the other sections of the page here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Home. Then on the right side, adjust as desired in the "Firefox Home Content" section.

JSCHER2000, Thanks for the prompt reply. (Re your question: I only find that a tiny yellow triangle icon appears on top of the "3-bar" menu button; it is live, and it moves me to the spot where I am supposed to sign in to the sync process, or to register.) Based upon your reply and the reply by the-edmeister, I'm going to tough it out and take no further action -- unless the nagging gets worse. Cheers, John S.
