Why do I get message "verifying firefox" when opening

Using Firefox on my Mac. When I open firefox I get a message "verifying firefox". This process takes a while and then I am asked to confirm that I wan't to open Firefox. Do I have to go through this rather laborious process each time or is there a solution? Many thanks

Thanks. Have allowed Firefox "to control my computer" and now opens OK.

That's a first for me. Could this be caused be your protection programs?
