Hello, Been on my computer doing my normal web channeling and all of a sudden I get this guy screaming his off with a bunch of authentic looking pages from Microsoft saying that they had block my system and I need to call this number. I knew it was a scam and was told sometime back to shut your system down and come back later on. I did exactly that and I can get Edge and Chrome but when I hit on the icon for Firefox ,desktop, nothing happens.

I thought uninstall Firefox and reinstall but it gives me a message to close Firefox first. Cannot even do that.

Would appreciate any help you can provide, Thanx and have a great day.:0) Regards, MCG

PS. I'm not even sure how I got to this. If any of you have a solution this will help: x :0)

Hello Fred, Just want to thank you for you assisting me in my situation. It turn out that it was not a malware attack, thank the Lord, after all. A friend called and I ended up telling him and he walked me thru it. Surprised me of his savvy on computers. So thanks again and have a blessed day. Regards, MCG

. Whenever you get a message / popup like that;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS OR ANY PHONE NUMBERS ! !

Such messages are only Spam that could lead you to Fake Support. Not only can they damage or hack your system, they charge you to do so.

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Hi FredMcD,

Thank you for I really appreciate this article you sent me and all others that I had seen today don't quite get there. Because each tells me to go to the upper corner and hit on that 3 line square. No one is realizing that I cannot bring up that page because it won't do it.Nothing comes of it when I hit on that icon. It even says that if you are using another browser it won't work. I have no choice to use another browser from Chrome/Edge. I hit on their 3 line square thing there is no question mark on the bottom for me to hit on to get to the refresh button.

I'm not understanding something because if I didn't have to go to another browser and do what they say on the page they are talking about then Firefox would be working and then I wouldn't need any help. Thanks a bunch for your willingness to help and if you come up with something else would love to hear it. Have a good one. :0)regards, MCG

Please do not put any spaces as the first character on any line. The space is a special command on this forum.

Did you run the malware scans?

What's your computer system and Firefox version?

more options

Hi Fred, Sorry about the space,I'm old school and that was how we were taught to write. My system is a Hp Pavilion bought several years ago at Costco.Very simple system. The Firefox version is X64.0.2 As for you asking if I ran those scans.Of what I understand,I hit on those highlighted titles and like I said they each tell me to go up to the right upper corner of the page and hit on that 3 line square thing. I do that and then it tells me if I am on another browser it won't work. I cannot help but be on another browser for Firefox will not respond. Are those high lighted subtitles the scans you are referring to?

Regards, MCG

The Malware scanners run independently. You should not be getting an instruction for the browser.

Fred, This is the page where it sends me when I hit on that address you gave me. Is this what your talking about as for these scanners are concern?

Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

Malware is short for "Malicious Software". It is a term generally used for software installed on your computer that is designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of. This article describes what common symptoms are and how to prevent malware from being installed and get rid of them.

Table of Contents How do I know that my Firefox problem is a result of malware? How do I prevent malware from being installed? How do I get rid of malware? Need more help?

There are 4 high lighted subtitles, above, are these the scanners?

more options

The scanners are listed under; How do I get rid of malware?

You can start with; Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free

Note that the listed scanners are free to use. If you pay for a subscription, several added options are available.

Download the installer. Then run it to install each scanner. Once installed, just run them (one at a time).

That was very good work. Tell your friend well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

Could you post what was done to fix the issue?

Hi Fred, I hope I'm doing this right. He had me right click on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen,a blank spot, and hit on " Task Manager ". This window pops up and he had me scroll down until I see " Firefox " and there were two of them and he had me eliminate them. Then I hit on the Firefox icon on the desk top and bingo the browser came up. So I hope this helps others out. Again thank you much for your patience and willingness to help.

Be Blessed, MCG

Good work. The computers Task Manager can, most of the time, shut down a program that is locked up, frozen or whatever.
