I have a USB PKI card reader, an HID Omnikey device, which I use with the Atos CardOS application to authenticate to various internal webpages. If I connect the reader before Firefox is launched, then the device driver for the CardOS application, cardos11_64.dll, is loaded properly, and can process authentication requests from webpages. If I connect the reader after Firefox has been launched, the program doesn't properly associate the .dll to the device unless I go into Options > Advanced > Security Devices, remove the device associated with the .dll, and re-add it by hand. Of course, I can get around this by restarting Firefox, but I'd rather not have to keep entering my Authenticator token for some sites I use, and don't want to trust my device in case it gets compromised (as this negates the purpose of multi-factor authentication). Is there a way to have Firefox detect the USB plug-in of the card reader & associate it properly with the pre-existing .dll, or send a refresh signal to the Security Devices module to have it rescan for hardware changes? Or is this a problem that is unique to Atos's CardOS software implementation? Or is it possible that I'd be better off using a different .dll for this reader (which opens up more complications as to how to get it to pass information through CardOS)?
