TypeError: gBrowser.getBrowserIndexForDocument is not a function

Has anyone any clues as to what can cause this error? It seems to tie up with a redirect url error (some text about circular paths and cookies may be blocked). It goes away after a few retries, the url is 100% ok.

This is not a firefox error, it is the website that triggers it but I could do with understanding something/anything about the firefox error message.
