I use windows7. I've looked at firefox help and solutions on internet searches. None of these I have found solved the problem. It seems to have started after an update to firefox did not complete. Now I feel like I am in a loop. I can open firefox, but only after I select yes in the account control window

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator. Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties". Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
"Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\). If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

I sounds like you are attempting to run Firefox as an administrator. You do not need to run in administrator mode to fully use Firefox and running in administrator mode will force the user account control prompt to appear on startup.

Please try opening the properties of the firefox.exe file in the installation directory. Go to the Compatibility tab of the properties tab and uncheck the Run this program as an administrator option.

This should stop the UAC from appearing when you open Firefox. Please let us know if this fixes the issue.

No that solution did not solve the problem, but we luckily found another in the support forum (3/26/14) in an internet search that appears to have solved the problem. Thanks for your response and attempt to help
