thanks so you need to update to flash 21.0.0.213 - here is a direct download link: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_21_plugin.exe (the version you are currently using is widely exploited and used to spread cryptolockers and other malware, that's why you won't be able to execute it by default on all websites)

The Flash plugin sets itself for automatic updating when you install it, unless you turned that off. But I think it only checks at Windows startup, so if you never reboot Windows, then that might not happen and then you're on your own.

What version do you have now? Have you tried the Mozilla Plugin Check page: https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/

Note: for the Adobe Acrobat/Reader plugin, I suggest updating from inside your Adobe Acrobat/Reader product using the Help menu to "Check for Updates". Otherwise, the Plugin Check site may send you on a wild goose chase.

What version of the Flash Player Plugin do you have?

Flash Player 21.0.0.213 (Win) has been the current since April 7.

Flash Player 21.0.0.197 and older on Windows has been put on blockist for soft blo9cking (click to play) due to critical vulnerabilities. Unfortunately most of the versions since Dec 2014 has been hit with critical security concerns many with proven in wild exploits.

Mozilla would prefer not to put versions of Plugins on blocklist as they did back during April 2013 to Dec 2014 with Flash Player as the security concerns were not critical enough to warrant then.

I recently(about 2 weeks back) downloaded MOZILLA FIREFOX the latest version and i also downloaded adobe flash which was latest at that time,so it way past April 6.

thanks, based on that it looks like you have set the shockwave flash plugin to only be executed after being asked. in order to change that, go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > plugins section and set flash to "always activate".

So the image says you are using 21.0.0.197 which is the previous version and not the current 21.0.0.213 that has been out for almost a month now.

Either you actually have 21.0.0.197 installed on system or if you do have 21.0.0.213 then you could also have 21.0.0.197 installed on system. If the Flash player was still in use when you installed the new Flash Player then the older version can potentially stay around.

more options

You can check whether Firefox is finding multiple versions of Flash using an internal page. Type or paste about:plugins in the address bar and press Enter. Then in the page, you can use Find (Ctrl+f) to look for npswf which is unique to the Flash plugin.

If you have multiple versions...

The official cleanup method is to do a full uninstall/reinstall of Flash. You can find a link to Adobe's uninstaller in this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

But... it usually works to just physically remove the older file(s). On the about:plugins page, the full path on disk should be listed for each plugin.

On 32-bit Windows, the normal location is:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

If you go into that folder, be careful to delete ONLY the specific unwanted file listed in about:plugins because the others may be needed by other programs.

In chrome i dont need to update adobe flash every time a new update is availabe.

Chrome has its own version of Flash, which comes with Chrome and via the Chrome updater.

IMO, there is a big problem with Adobe Flash and their program updater - it checks for updates once a month. That was fine a few years ago when Adobe products weren't getting exploited as frequently as they have been for the last couple of years. And in 2015 there were 3 new Adobe Flash versions released in the same calendar month - how are Adobe Flash users 'supported' with a once a month check for security updates? At least as far as automatic, unattended updating goes.

On the other hand, Chrome has their update 'checker' running whenever the user's PC is turned on; Chrome doesn't even have to be running to get the latest Pepper Flash version downloaded; the installation is done the next time Chrome is opened.

It is working after updating. But my point is, do I have to update it every month?.If so,then it is very annoying(read internet speed not so great).

You can see the security bulletins for Flash Player at https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player.html

However as you can see at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/ there was a long period between early 2013 and Dec 2014 where Flash player versions was not put on blocklist. This was because the security concerns with the versions at time were not serious enough at time to warrant doing so.

Then back in Dec 2014 and Jan 2015 many came here wondering why their rather old version from early 2013 (often a version right after last one in blocklist) was then set to Click to activate.
