Message filter disappeared after re-adding email account. Can I retrieve it?

Hi there,

My email stopped working, eventhough all the settings were correct.

I had to re-add the email account, but the message filter I set up has disappeared. It would be very important to be able to retrieve as there were a lot of rules and it would take me a very long time to re-create it.

Filters are attached to accounts. Since you have started this account afresh, it has no filters.

Filters are stored in files named msgFilterRules.dat and the good news for you is that having removed the original account and started over, the old account's files are still there. The challenge will be to identify which Mail or ImapMail folder they live in.

You'll need to become intimate with your profile. To start off, enable viewing of hidden files. The old account will have some reference to the email provider in its name, and the date of its last change should give a clue as to which one you have just recently stopped changing.

Once you have found the right file, you can copy and paste it over the new file in the new account.
