I would like to be able to save/export/backup my Firefox for Android bookmarks to a file on my Samsung Tab 2 tablet for safety. How can this be done or CAN it even be done.

They cannot be backed up to a file. You can use Firefox Sync, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync
