My new tab page today is missing the 3 favorites, saved, or top sites (whatever you call them pages) I do not have them bookmarked. Please I need them back!!! So basically here it is the new layout of the new tab has a google search bar...that is great, but at the bottom there was 3 more web page links, windows or whatever they are called and they are GONE!

Ok doing that troubleshooter is great, but I am not having a problem on this page, CLEARLY!

IDK what other or additional information I can provide but I will do the best I can.

New tab used to look like this: http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/firefox-13-new-tab-page.jpg

Now it looks like this: http://s0.cyberciti.org/uploads/faq/2012/06/firefox-turn-new-tab-page-off.png

I am still missing 3 tabs....

Please help.

Thank you

Hi KCarl, you will still need to zoom out to see the nine tabs.

If you do not want to zoom out each time you are on the new tab page, please install the Stylish extension:

And then install the user style:

Let us know if that works.

Hello,

With the latest Firefox update, the number of tiles is now determined on screen size - if you zoom out or expand the window you can have more tiles appear. So your tiles might just be hidden.

If you want to set a fixed number of tiles, you can do so with the following extension:

You can also see jscher2000's Chosen Solution here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1025414 It requires the Stylish add-on but will automatically shrink the tiles on the page:

It is nice that you wrote back, thank you. However this does not solve my problem. I only have 6 on my page now and I want the 9 back that I had. So I have to choose between 6 and 12? I kinda want to go back to the 9 that I had in the original layout.

Thank you

Hello,

I am a little confused at your last post. But from your original problem, were you at least able to see the three tiles you were missing and bookmark them?

If you want to have a fixed number of tiles (3x3 for example), you can use the extension I mentioned in second part of my first reply:

If you zoomed (see Firefox's zoom feature article), or used the style (https://userstyles.org/styles/106326/shrink-new-tab-thumbnails), and you are finding that there are too many tiles now, you can change your configuration for the page.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Search for browser.newtabpage.columns, right click on the row and select "Modify" or double click on the row, and set the value to whatever you want (set it to 3 if you want 3x3)
    • You can also change the browser.newtabpage.rows preference in the same way, but by default it should be at 3

Please let us know if this helped you!

Thank you.

I do not know what your are confused about. The original new tab had 9 tabs, windows, pages, links (I do not know what they are called) listed on them. The new one, as my linked pictures from my original post show...only contains 6 of those not 9. I am able to zoom and get 12. I am not interested in 12 only the 9.

In following your instructions there is no browser.newtabpage.columns on the list anywhere.

Just going to make due with it the way it is, have to live with it.

Tell those knuckleheads the next time they update something to leave our new tab page exactly the way we have it setup.

The biggest problem now is... There is no easy way to get back to my question so this will be my last response. It is such a long process why can't there just be a link or something

I am kinda done with it, I am throwing in the towel.

Did you set the browser.newtabpage.columns pref to 3 on the about:config page (default is 5 columns)?

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

THANKS Cory, I went back and eventually found it. I have changed the number but the new tab page stays the same...  :(

So it is still what I would call unresolved.

I do not want to install anything. I do not want to modify anything else. Such a pain just to do that.

There is no easy way for me to get here to log back in just to answer. I feel like I have to go the longest possible way. There is no link on the email I get every time someone writes something that does not do anything.

So you and everyone else can write whatever you want.

Why is there no easy way to get back here? Why is it so difficult?

You can hide the search bar and the margins at the top and bottom with code in the userContent.css file to get more space for tiles.

Add code to the userContent.css file.

@-moz-document url(about:newtab) {
 #newtab-margin-top,
 #newtab-margin-bottom,
 #newtab-search-container {display:none!important}
}

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.
