Firefox doesn't save flash games progress anymore.
I tried to find an answer before, but I couldn't, so I'm posting a question. The thing is, out of the blue, Firefox stopped saving athe progress of a few games I use to play at kongregate.com. It happened before and the solution was to to format the HD (I had to do it anyway and Firefox was only one more reason). I spent a lot of time (and solutions) trying to figure out what was the problem with no success. However, this time I have to fix the issue. I changed the Flash Player settings to store 10MB (or 1Mb, or 100K ...) , but the changes never stick. Tried reinstalling the browser, didn't work. Reinstalling the Flash Player, no good. Activate/Deactivate add-ons, rebuild Firefox profile, a number of basic stuff and still nothing. I hope there is a fix for this issue, but I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thx!
PS: FYI, The game that motivated my rebellion was New Star Soccer :) My system is a W7 64-bit Home Premium.

Hi Porpetaman, Thank you for your question. There are two features that come to mind for this storage issue that you are describing,
If you right click on a Flash player plugin and select "Global Settings" a menu will pop up that has an option to control storage of the plugin. "Local Storage" and "Local storage settings by site" add the site urls and click allow. (is this what you did before and it did not stick? )
Also right click on the page and click "Page Info" and make sure storage is enabled (cache/ offline cache)
I hope this helps, thank you.
Thx for the reply. I really am in trouble with this thing. Well, answering your question, what I did was look for the flash player configurations through google (this website: Http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/br/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html). Supposedly I could change the storage capacity, but everytime i tried, somehow the settings are restored to none. If i mark the "never ask this again" checkbox, even if it is set to unlimited, as soon as I check the box, it turns to "none" again (sorry if the translations are no accurate. my browser is in portuguese). The same happens with the local storage settings by site, and even if I add a website to not follow the rules (no capacity storage), after I close the browser the settings exclude the site i just added. I hope I made myself understandable. Just to make sure I tried everything, where can I right-click to find that "Page info" option you mentioned before? I just untick the Automatic Cache Management at Tools/Options/Advanced/Network (Ferramentas/Opções/Avançado/Rede) (again, don't know the english precise name), which was set to 10 GB, while the browser said my web cache files were occupying only 348MB. I really want to get this cursed Flash Player to work.
Could you double-check that you do not have any add-ons or external software that could be blocking Flash from saving Local Storage Objects (LSOs) sometimes called "Flash cookies", or which cleans them out?
Among Firefox add-ons, one called "Better Privacy" (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad.../betterprivacy/) can block Flash LSOs, so if you have that one, you probably need to figure out how to make an exception or just remove it.
Outside of Firefox, there are many privacy utilities available. It's difficult to guess which ones you might have installed.
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
- do not clear the Cookies
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
Also make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
Hello, jscher 2000 and cor-el. Thank you for your time, guys. Regarding the "clear history when Firefox closes" I checked it and it seems ok. It says Use custom settings and Private Browsing is not ticked as it isn't the "Clear history when Firefox closes" option. Also keep cookies until is set to "ask".
About the Add-Ons, I looked for the better privacy, but I don't have it installed. However, how can I check if I something blocking the Flash from saving these LSOs? I really don't understand why this is happening. In a matter of websurfing, i mostly keep the default settings of the browser (both I.E. and Firefox). I didn't do any recente updates and the software i use is basically games, through Steam. Don't believe they may have anything to do with this malfunction. As I'm writing this down, I'm upgrading Firefox to version 31.0 (didn't want to do before to "keep the conditions in which I got the error).
PS: Don't know if it matters but... just so you know, it's not an exclusive problem with the Firefox, since when I played the veru same games with I.E. the info is lost as well. Those LSOs are having a hard time here.
Could this be a feature of your security software, or another utility program?
Do you see this website listed when you check the local storage setting for Flash?
- Windows Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage: Local Storage Settings
- Remove a specific domain: Local Storage Settings by site
Flash Website Storage Settings panel:
Global Storage Settings Panel:
Porpetaman, I also noticed shockwave is not up to date. It is on version 12. Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
Hi there, guys.
To answer your question, jscher2000, I really can't be sure. I didn't make any changes in my software, aside the regular updates from the Avira AV (free version). Regarding yours, cor-el, I didn't see the site listed at Local Storage Settings, or anywhere else for that matter. The Website Storage Settings panel shows no site listed and, even if I try, the slide bar controlling the storage space refuses to set other value than none. The Global Storage Settings Panel is set to unlimited and all three options are checked. As for the shockwave, guigs2, I just updated it. Didn't know it had a new version, thx man. Anyway, I'm going to try New Star Soccer one more time :) Let's see if there is any difference.
PS: A few times, when I've just had closed Firefox (about 5 to 10 minutes later) and i tried to play the game again, the save was still there. However after 1 hour, it was sure to be gone. Now, it's been two hours since I've last played it and the save is still here. Maybe the shockwave update did the trick. Can't tell for sure. I'm going to pay closer attention to see if the problem is gone. (If so, that would be very silly of me...Regardless, I'll buy you a beer, mr. guigs2!)
Regrettably, it didn't solve the problem. Just found out... Any other ideas, guys? (and again, thank you all for the help.)

Could you make the cache bigger?
Well, i did set it to 1GB (it was the maximum value firefox allowed. Anyway, i hoped we could find a definite answer because i think this problem may be a bit common, but i won't trouble you guys with it any longer. I just bought 2 new HDD and will have to format everything again so... I really appreciate your help, but if the moderator wish, the topic can be closed.
