I don't know what the hell is going on!!! I'm usually polite person but this update was beyond any logical reason. Why the address bar disappeared? How I'm supposed to go to any site except from bookmarked ones? Here should I write the address? The search field is gone too. I made the mistake updating to FF30 at work but did the clever decision to keep to FF28 at home AND to disable updates after the disaster called FF29. I'm not against updates but I'm against meaningless updates, moreover updates that make the browser practically unusable as I can't go to any site now!!!!

I attach screenshot of this unusable for surfing version.

It looks like you may have an add-on that disabled your address bar.

I saw the address bar in Safe Mode but not the search bar which was next to it. I have over 50 add-ons, how could I find which one caues the problem? I use all of them for my need and I won't reset in any case. I'b better downgrade to FF28 if possible.

After going back to full mode the bar and search returned, probably the problematic add-on updated to fit the new version. I can't see which add-on this was but good my problem is solved. But I decided to disable more updates at work too, don't want more "funny" surprises.

Downgrading to 28 isn't going to fix this problem, it's solely an add-on issue.

Try disabling all your add-ons, see if the issue goes away (you may need to re-customize your toolbars How to Customize Toolbars to bring back the Address bar and search bar since your add-ons got rid of them).

Then re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the culprit.

You shouldn't disable updates, they are very important to provide increased security. This issue wasn't an updates issue anyway, it was an issue with an add-on.

It's ok already at work but I still am afraid of updating at home, I'm online in every moment I'm awake so it is important to me not to meet this issue at home too. Imho the add-on which caused this was fixed by its owner, the prob is that I can't knkw which one was it and to disable it at home.

You can look in the Add-ons Manager Tab and click the More... button for each Extension to see Last updated: for each Extension - to help you try to pinpoint the culprit.

IMO, from my 12 years experience using Firefox, 50 extensions is just looking for incompatibility problems; especially when a major update like Firefox 29 occurs. You would be better off using two separate Profiles with fewer extensions in each Profile. Plus, a major update is a good time to build a new Profile; they don't last forever before having problems like you experienced. Yeah, it is a lot of work, but with the amount of time you spend using Firefox you'll have a net gain and far fewer frustrations or problems.

Hi vessto, this tip --

After going back to full mode the bar and search returned, probably the problematic add-on updated to fit the new version.

-- is useful to know. If you encounter this in the future, can you try the same thing (e.g., F11 to go full screen, then F11 to return to normal) and confirm that it's repeatable?

Of course, tracking down which of many extensions would be a challenge, but sometimes you only need to know the symptom and the medicine, and not the actual causation to help a lot of user who find this thread.

Try to open a new window to see if that brings back the location bar.

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

Make sure that you have all toolbars visible.

  • Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the "Restore Defaults" button to restore the default toolbar setup

These are all add-on which updated yesterday. I don't suspect the Dark theme bc I tried in Default theme and the prob existed. I only noticed yeserday AdBlock+ was gone for a while, then I closed the empty bottom taskbar and then the address bar and search field appeared and AdBlock+ too in the top taskbar.

Would you mods quit saying updates are important for security and change is good! People like what they like. People went to FF because forced updates is how I.E. operates. Give us back our freedom of choice!

Hi Toenail89, do you have the same problem as the poster in this thread, or a different issue? If it's a different issue, please start a new question:

I had the same problem then I solved it. I dropped Firefox. The mods on this site push the new features rather than helping others who don't like the new settings fix their issues. Firefox is owned by Google so it now is nothing more than a Chrome Clone. And I have Chrome on my tablet so I tried FF for Android but it was essentially the same thing. So now Google bought out its only real competition and threat to world domination and the mods just sit there drinking the kool-aid, nodding their heads while repeating "yes master".

Hi Toenail89, I don't know where you got the idea that we're saying you're stuck using the default interface. The volunteers here spend many hours every day helping users customize Firefox to look the way they want it. There's even a published support article: How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox.

Now, I certainly can understand being upset about interface changes, but give us some credit here for helping you get back on track. Or not, if you've lost faith and prefer another browser now.

It's the fact that it is unstable, locks up and crashes playing videos and is overall junk being foisted off as "new" and "better". And yes I know we can change the look. But being forced to update to a non-functioning, buggy, kludgy, thrown together clone of Chrome is not what Firefox was about. You guys are going thru a "windows vista" kinda of thing now. Lets get a non work hunk of junk out there first then fix the problems in a latter version like "windows 7" I got tired of fighting with the address bar, got tired of the tabs, got tired of the bookmarks and got tired of being told I had to update. Now I've done some searching around the past little while and found this: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9248411/Mozilla_plans_semi_silent_updates_to_tug_laggards_onto_the_newest_Firefox telling folks about the plan to force updates and following a link on that page I read this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=994882#c1, showing the attitude of several Firefox "volunteers" that we should be forced no matter what and if we refused we should be nagged to death. There are lots of issues with FF30 and if you guys would read the reviews and comments you'd see that many folks are displeased with it. Until it is fixed we shouldn't be forced to update. We shouldn't be forced anyway. But since this new version is incorporating ads as an income source then of course the FF establishment is going to "encourage" updating. And I won't. It's that simple. I went thru that crap back in the I.E. vs Netscape battles years ago. That was the reason I went to FF in the first place.

Hi Toenail89, Mozilla is not placing ads in Firefox 30. If you saw ads in Firefox 30, you might have malware that needs to be removed. In the future, there may be sponsored tiles in some of the blank spaces on the new tab page. Your history would naturally displace those over time, as it does now with the blank tiles, or you could replace them immediately with bookmarked sites. It's one of many ideas raised to ensure that Mozilla has enough money to continue with its mission.

In case you still care about Firefox:

Since you have mentioned crashes, updates, and a number of issues other than the one this thread is about (address bar), if you want support with those, please start a new question using the link I listed before.

Each version of Firefox fixes hundreds of bugs from previous versions, but any time new features are introduced, there can and usually will be new issues that weren't caught in testing. Being specific and engaging in troubleshooting helps Mozilla track those down and fix them, and to document workarounds to tide you over until the fixes roll out.

@Toenail89: Nothing can make me switching to Chrome. I know FF is owned by Google whcih on first though could be understand as that they spend more eforts in their main broswer Chrome. But it is wrong way of thinking. I have 5 broswers on my PC, use them for different purposes and FF is my default one because many reasons. That is why I'm sensitive in anything I see as a bug in it.

Um, who said Mozilla was owned by google? Mozilla is not for sale, we have no shares, no stockholders, and we are a private non-profit, not owned by google, investors, or anyone.
