I keep getting the message that Firefox 7.0.1. update is available. I click on the ok and Firefox attempts to connect to the server. It will stay in the "connecting: state until I shut it off. It never connects. Firefox work great otherwise. What can I do to update it?

Easiest way is to go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the latest version. Save the File -> Close Firefox -> Run Installer -> Open Firefox
