How do I mark it as solved so others don't waste time replying? Seems that some basic FAQ or Help instructions for this forum would be useful

There should be a Mark as Solved button in that thread, if you are logged in with the same user name as you used when you started that thread. But it may not appear if there haven't been any other postings in that thread, beyond your initial posting.
