Firefox 136
What a dirty trick! I updated Firefox to version 136.0.1 to stop all the nagging, and my tabs disappeared! Nothing I could do brought them back. I asked the internet and finally learned about the sidebar, where tiny icons are shown (which I hadn't noticed). Nothing I could do with the sidebar brought the tabs back. Asked the internet again, and finally I found that buried in the Preferences is Browser Layout. When I deselected "Show sidebar," the tabs came back. What a dirty trick to make that the default, with no clue how to undo it! Nothing in the menus or the Help was any help. P.S., I am not a computer novice; I was a systems programmer in my professional life and have been using Firefox for many years.

Not sure what system programmer has relevance here if your system browser crashed the tab should be showing in the history. Did you look there or not to verify they were still present or in history list?
Nothing crashed. If you read my complaint, you'll see that I was complaining about the update having the default setting of sidebar tabs, instead of tabs across the top, with no warning, no explanation, no way to get the original tabs back. Mozilla is normally much more user-friendly than that.
The system programmer comment was to show that I do know my way around computers.
