I was switching from Outlook to Thunderbird and not being familiar with the tab layout made a dumb mistake, I thought I was deleting a tab with filtered spam but instead I selected all in my unified inbox and hit send to trash. It dumped about 4000 into trash that were not important but when that was empty it started pulling older email off the IMAP servers and filling the trash up again. I have about 28000 emails (I assume that makes me a hoarder) about 200 of which need to be kept. I took Thunderbird offline, deleted the Windows app, redownloaded and as soon as I added the accounts back in it started deleting again. Is there anyway to stop the delete all inbox transfer or do I just need to go back to Outlook or another email client?

Hi all. My mail account reached 50 GB (it's too much) and this is what I plan to do:

1) Download all emails to TB 2) Remove emails older then 1 year from server (for now I don't know how to do that) 3) Keep all emails in TB and use it as my local database - if I'm looking for some old mails then I will go to TB

Important information - daily I don't use TB. I log to my mail via web gui.

The question is - what TB will do when it connects to server and notices that older emails are deleted. Will TB also delete them locally? It's not what I want - my goal is to keep old emails locally. Should I disconnect TB from server after downloading all email by changing credentials?

Please tell me what you think about that plan. Do you see better way to store old emails and keep mailbox slim on the server? I want to fit in 2-5 GB.

By the way do you have idea how to delete mails older then 1 year from server? I have shell access.

I get this message when I try to send out emails:

Det gick inte att skicka meddelandet. Ett fel uppstod när e-post skulle skickas. Servern svarade: [M5] Your credentials have been compromised. Please change your password or contact support (2fe59c46-0669-11f1-a827-e90f2b8e16ca). Kontrollera att din e-postadress är korrekt i dina kontoinställningar och försök igen

I changed password, and it changed to this:

[R9] Your credentials have been compromised. Clean your devices from malware, change your password or contact support (4beaa535-066d-11f1-a6bf-f7376af24660).

Through my e-mail provide one.com, its working as usual. My other emails works on Thunderbird as well.

I still receive email to Thunderbird email.

Does TBird support plus addressing?

Scenario: I want to reply to email sent "To: markfilipak+joe@...". To do that successfully, in the "Write" dialog, I have to click on "From", scroll down to "Customize From Address...", click it, and add "+joe". (There is a menu alternative: "Options","Customize From Address...".)

If I forget to do that, then my reply does not have "+joe"; it goes out "From: markfilipak@...".

The Issue: When Joe replies to _that_ message, it does not have "+joe", so Joe's reply is trashed. (It's trashed because a filter I wrote automatically deletes messages that do not have "To: markfilipak+<something>@..." in the header.

The sensible way to handle plus addressing is for TBird to recognize plus addressing and to automatically make my "From" header from Joe's "To" header. That way, "+joe" will always be there.

Is there a way to do that?

Thanks Folks! -- Mark.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years. I just got a new computer and installed Thunderbird onto it. I have several email accounts for personal, business and clubs so this makes it easy to keep track of. I have some gmail accounts and 3 different yahoo accounts. Now when I get an email to one yahoo account it prorogates to the other two. This never happened on the old computer do you have any idea how this happened, and more importantly, how do I stop it?

Suppose I see 10 incoming emails on my server (core.com). In thunderbird, when I click to download them, I see a message saying something like "downlaoding 10 emails". After that only 2 or 3 of them have been downloaded, the rest deleted. Help! This started happening a couple of weeks ago. I have tried downloading and re-installing Thunderbird, to no avail. Should I change my account settings?

I have just acquired a replacement PC and installed Thunderbird, and (as happened on previous occasions) I am unable to send emails because the outgoing server settings that were automatically detected are incorrect, and even feeding in those I recorded on the last occasion does not work. I have had a long conversation with somebody at Plusnet Help Desk, who agrees that the outgoing server should be mail.care4free.net and the port number should be 25, and the connection type should be SSL. He also thought that on my "Account settings" screen there should be an option "Account actions" through which I may be able to solve the problem, but this is not there. I think that last time I had this problem, some genius on this forum managed to solve it, and hope that this will again be the case!

I am so annoyed, MS clearly sabotage this to push people back to their horrific software! I am so against that idea I lost an entire full work day today trying to do something SO simple, to install Thunderbird (for a friend) and connect it to MS365 email address.

It's IMAP, it should have taken SECONDS! It did create it, pulled in tons of email, but refuses to SEND any! I tried every single suggestion I could find online, going back years. NOTHING works! All i get every time whne sending email is : "Login to server smtp.office365.com failed. "

Does anyone have a magic cure, 6 solid hours of this and I still refuse to give up hopes of making Thunderbird the active mail client! Thanks

I have two emails linked in Thunderbird. My default one works fine, but my secondary one started opening emails wrong yesterday. Every email I open, instead of just being able to view it/read it, it opens it into a composing email (like I am replying back to the email or even replying back to myself instead of just trying to read it) I looked at all of the settings between the two accounts and can't find any differences. Help

I really have given up on Thunderbird, even though I have been a loyal supporter of the product for many years.

For the last year I have had to bypass Thunderbird and read my emails either on my mobile or directly from the BT server, which is how I am writing this mail.

My problem is , although I can view my mail perfectly on my mobile and of course on the BT server, Thunderbird seems totally incapable of transferring the mail to the Thunderbird inbox.

Thunderbird is not able to show the text and any images, all I get is a mail with a number of boxes, no pictures or anything of any use.

Is this since a Thunderbird 'update' or what, I don't know.

A little while ago I posted this problem and only got one reply from an 'expert'/community which failed to solve problem in any way.

I have also lost many of my earlier mail

Is it time to abandon Thunderbird and change to the dreaded Microsoft email package?

Yours faithfully in great expectations that someone somewhere most know how to fix Thunderbird
