Thunderbird - I accidentally deleted my saved login

When made to change my password by my email provider, instead of deleting my old password in Thunderbird I accidentally deleted the entire saved login (Thunderbird > Settings > Privacy&Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords > then deleted the entire saved login instead of only deleting the old password). When I tried adding my account login back to Thunderbird using “+ New Account”, it gives me an error message that my incoming server already exists. I'm trying to get my old saved login back without doing any more harm. I can still get into Thunderbird but it won't connect to the server (my login credentials now fail). I can still see and read my old emails but it won't retrieve any new emails. Is there a way to get my old login credentials back or re-enter them into Thunderbird? If not, are there files and folders I can copy from my old saved Thunderbird Profile directory into my active Profile directory to be able to login to my account again while keeping my local folders? I saved a lot of my email to my local folders, so I'm hesitant to overwrite my Mail folder (and even my ImapMail folder) for fear of losing my existing folders, especially my local folders.

Hello; Windows 10 & current version of Thunderbird. I am trying to add Messages Filters to filter out spam (getting more and more of that!) but the "OK" button on the add message filter is below the bottom of the screen. The window cannot be raised or resized to make the button visible. Photo below. Moving window does not allow me to raise window above top of screen. Keyboard (Alt-Enter) / Move will not work. Changed windows screen size just makes window larger but button still below bottom of screen.

Non-functional work around. Highlight Message name. Press Shift-Tab TWICE. Press ENTER. UGLY!

Tech since DOS 3.0

Thank you for your time and attention.

Thunderbird just updated to 144.0.1 (64-bit), and now I see a blank area where message list used to be. This true for all accounts and all folders.

I used to see this issue temporarily after compacting folders, but usually (but not always) went away and messages showed up. Sometimes I had to close and restart TB. Now even that wont bring up the lists. I'm dead in the water. And, yes, I did reboot my computer as well. Screenshot of this state attached.

Thanks for any help--it's urgent. Bert

This request to confirm a gmail account just began to pop up and appears to be spam. I cannot find its source.

Windows 11, up to date. Thunderbird, up to date.

1. I have never used this account with Thunderbird in the past and it is not an email used for communications. 2. Have only accessed this Gmail account via a web browser and am NOT logged into this google account. 3. The web address listed is not accessible. 4. The only object that links to anything is the Next button. 5. Have run a full Windows Defender scan - reports not threats or objects of concern.

Any direction on how to make it go away?

If it is a Google issue, any direction on where to look?

Any help is much appreciated. I am a long time user and supporter of Thunderbird and this is just annoying.

Thanks in advance for any assistance, Kevin in Annapolis Maryland, USA

I have installed Thunderbird on a new computer and copied my profile from the old computer as per instructions on the Mozilla site. However on the install on the new computer the LOCAL FOLDERS, sub folders which I use as archive storage do not contain the messages as per the my old computer. The sub folders are named correctly.

I have attached photos of the sub folders from the old computer showing data in the sub folder and also the new computer showing no data.

Please advise how to retrieve the data for the new computer.

I have an email account with BlueHost, which also hosts my web domain. A couple weeks ago I stopped receiving emails and contacted BlueHost tech support. The agent had no clue why I wasn't receiving email. She said "Can you please click on acocunt actions and remove the account and re-addd it. [sic]" I did that, and I was again able to receive emails. But then all my old emails -- sent and received -- had disappeared. BlueHost was able to restore my Inbox emails back to May 19, but was not able to recover any Sent emails. I have a backup of my Thunderbird directory from April, but would like to recover all of my old emails, which apparently still exist because my current Thunderbird Profiles directory contains files corresponding to deleted email folders. For example, my Inbox had a subfolder -- call it ABC -- that was deleted and is no longer visible in my Inbox, but I can find files ABC (no extension) and ABC.msf in my Inbox.sbd folder. My Sent.sbd folder also contains files ABC and ABC.msf. These folders are in C:\Users\aaa\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\aaa.default\Mail\mail.aaa.com (with "aaa" representing my personal identifiers). mail.aaa.com contains files Inbox, Inbox.msf, Sent, and Sent.msf, which seem to contain my old emails. (Inbox is 132,151 KB and Sent is 289,829 KB, and the file dates are from a couple weeks ago, when I removed and re-added the email account.)

Is there a way that I can recover the old emails?

Hello, i have three PCs with installed Tunderbird. On one of them i want to add a new mail-account. If i follow the instruction here: [https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/automatisch-konto-konfigurieren#thun...], it leads to an input mask (not a Tab!!!), where i can enter an account-name and the mail-address. Clicking on Continue some automatic search is started but never stops (=> screenshot).

As i tried to do it several times now and tried to find other solutions, red instruction etc., i write now. Also: Im not sure if it is a bug.

I already mentioned in the beginnig: I have three PCs here. I used one of the others compare, wehere it works as described in the documentation (not an input-mask, but a Tab). So the probem occurs only on this PC, not on the other. Systems: Not working on win11 Thunderbird 144.0.1 (64-Bit) Working on win10 Thunderbird 144.0.0esr (64-Bit)

Until today Oct 14, 2025 I could edit the subject line on my incoming e-mails by right clicking the subject line and use 'edit subject'. As of this morning that option is not available in the context menu that comes up when I right click the subject line for an e-mail in my inbox. anybody have any ideas? I use this function constantly in my business to add the customer name to the subject line for customer searches and if I send a copy to a vendor so all messages pertaining to that customer are easily found.

I recently transferred my email account to The Messaging Company (big mistake I think) because my provider (Exetel) suggested them when they stopped hosting an email service. I then started having trouble receiving emails that I knew were sent and I thought that maybe my old emails were kept on the server too long and were taking up too much space on the server so I went into Thunderbird to change the settings to delete emails that had been on the server for 2 weeks. Thunderbird is now locked onto the Account Settings page and I can't get out of it. As soon as I click on the page I get the "Thunderbird not responding" message so I close the program. I've tried starting Thunderbird in safe mode with no result. I downloaded the latest version and reinstalled Thunderbird but as soon as I start the program it takes me straight into the "frozen" Account Settings page that I can't get out of. I have gone into The Profiles folder and I've included a screenshot of what's there. The latest profile was created when I tried to change the Account Settings. Can I delete that profile and go back to the one created on 9/6/2025?

I’m on a Mac using the Sequoia OS (not ready to update yet to Tahoe). I recently left Microsoft Outlook, my e-mail client for years, because of all the crashing and when I would update, all the stored e-mails disappeared. I am now using Apple Mail and the export function doesn’t work most of the time. Apple tech support did some things that told me they are automatic backups, but I can’t see them.

I use Thunderbird on an old PC and would like to also use it on my Mac. However, when attempting to import, it starts and finishes in about one second, importing nothing. The files are in .mbox format. What am I doing wrong trying to import these files?
