Were the reported bugs for 91.0 fixed?

I have been waiting with the upgrade to 91.0 due to the many reports of bugs. I would be most concerned about anything causing problems with bookmarks and settings. I really do not need any headaches and problems caused by new versions.

Were the reported bugs fixed and if not yet, when will they be fixed? Thanks.

Can you give us numbers or urls of these reported bugs?

Sorry, I do not understand your question. I just searched for 91.0 here and there is a long list of them, many repetitive and recent. For example:

This is not a bug, this is a "complaint" :). I'd suggest you to update. The longer time between updates, the greater chance that something will break.

Thanks. For me, anything that impacts functionality and usability of an application after an upgrade is a road block and causes waste of time and frustration, regardless how it is called. I guess users do not know how to formally report bugs, but from an end user perspective a legitimate complaint about something that worked well before and no longer works, is a bug that requires fixing. Too bad that often something is not broken, developers decide to change it or move it, for the sake of change, with no value in the change.

While I appreciate your advice, since my old version works, I will not upgrade until these complaints are not taken care of and the new release doesn't cause problems with bookmarks or other essential functions.

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers. If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

You can also file a bug report or feature request. See File a bug report or feature request for Mozilla products for details.

Thanks, I understand. I asked because I thought that someone might know (just by using the latest version) if the "complaint" about issues with the bookmarks was fixed or not. Thanks for volunteering to help others and your time.

Hi Sue, your Firefox identified itself as version 86, and the thread you linked refers to user interface changes made in Firefox 89. In particular, the spacing between menu items doubled from about 8 pixels to about 16 pixels, so for people with long bookmark menus, more scrolling is needed.

Firefox 89-90 had temporary preferences to defer those changes, but the temporary preferences don't work in Firefox 91 so those who kicked the can down the road for 10 weeks are renewing their complaints.

If you are asking whether Mozilla has abandoned the new menu spacing from Firefox 89, the answer is No and it's very unlikely to be completely abandoned. Firefox Nightly (future Firefox 93) is testing tighter menu spacing for users who use the optional/unsupported Compact Mode, but there's no information yet on how soon this might be added to regular releases of Firefox.

Meanwhile, support volunteers are suggesting various workarounds that we have available for users who want to modify the new interface. That is where we are on this issue.

Thanks for taking the time for the explanation, jscher2000.

Yes, I am still at version 86. I don't like change for the sake of change, so for now I will just stick to what I have. I do have a bookmark with many entries, so this change would impact me. There were other "complaints" that also could impact me. I do not know what benefit the upgrade would be for me, compared to the drawbacks and I do not need headaches and workarounds. There used to be a saying in my old country which translates as follows: "do not take a Tylenol if your head doesn't hurt".

This is a philosophical question that you might not have an answer to, but why was the menu spacing doubled, any good reason for it, any benefit? I am always wondering why and how developers make these decisions, how they prioritize changes.....

To Tonyfirshman: This is the link to start a new question:

I found a bug report link. Odd that posting a new question link is rather hidden! Thanks for the link.

I have now followed that link, and saw it was *exactly* where I started. I still can't see where to start a new post. I am logged in.

You start on this form and filled it out and clicked Submit Question? https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/form

That is weird. When I tried it this morning, it took me to the opening page, listing forums. No form, other than typing a topic. This time though it worked! Thanks second time round.

Is there a way to see the open bug list (end user complaints reported as problems to be fixed) for version 91? Thanks.

Thanks. This is a list of fixed bugs. Is there also a list of open (reported, qualified as bugs but waiting to be fixed) bugs?

The Bugzilla database contains all the unsolved open bugs. It is not easy to confirm which ones are issues in Firefox 91, or which ones are new issues in any particular version. If I run a search with these criteria:

  • Version user was using at time of reporting: Firefox 89, Firefox 90, Firefox 91
  • Status: UNCONFIRMED, NEW, ASSIGNED, REOPENED

Bugzilla only shows me the first 500 results: Bugzilla Advanced Search

It may make more sense to focus on the issues you really care about than spend the weekend reading all those bugs.

Thanks, jscher2000. I am concerned about issues that impact basic functionality, the bookmark and privacy settings. I will try to see what are those.
