I have had Ecosia set as my default search engine for some time but just now I did a search and it came up in Bing instead - something in the settings has been altered without my knowledge or permission. Ecosia is *not* available as one of the options under about:preferences#search and none of the articles I can find on making it my default actually work.

Any advice on how I can get back to the situation half an hour ago when if I typed a search phrase in the address bar the results came up in Ecosia?

Hi, the fact that your default has been set to Bing is possibly the sign that there is some malware or adware on your machine.

Please see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware for suggestions on how to get rid of it.

Once you've done that, you have two options:

1. Install the Ecosia Search add-on available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ecosia-search/ 2. Visit ecosia.org, then go to the three-dot menu in the address bar and select "Add Search Engine".

The Ecosia Search add-on will probably add a bit more to Firefox than just the search.
