I can't insert hyperlink or picture in my mail even after re-installing tb in linux mint 17.1.. no drop down box visible

There are no other problems drafting a mail, only when I press the insert-button. The draft-window loses its shadow and I can only get back to typing by pressing Esc. Already tried save-mode, re-booting and re-installing Thunderbird 31.7.0. am I overlooking something? I worked fine until yesterday.

That does not fix the issue of the other not working though. It could be a glitch in X windows that a restart would clear. Or it could be a bug. But if it just appeared without software update. I am guessing one of those reboot required glitches.
