music player starts up when i stream music, how do i stop this
Whego to stream music from a website (House-mixes.com) the banshee music player starts up. I want to listen to the music but i don't want the visuals, i want to stay on the website. Its only started doing this in the last couple of weeks. I'm running firefox on a very old laptop (10 yrs plus) using Ubuntu as the o/s. Its got about 500 Mb of ram and 30 Gig hard drive. I only use it to stream music. I have Firefox on my Pc and that works fine. I've tried Google Chrome (yuck!!) on this laptop and it worked fine. It seemed to start misbehaving after an update (not possitive about that though). Although i have Banshee Music PLayer installed it doesn't seem to be opperating when this happens. I also can't find a banshee plugin. It is possible that banshee might not be the problem. When I click on th "Manage Plugins/Show active plugins" I get an empty list.

Hi,
You can try deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Firefox Profile Folder & Files
The Ubuntu Forums would also be very helpful.
Thanks for your response. I tried your suggestion and deleted that file. It made no difference. Do you have any other suggestions please. Thanks
It seems to play in Flash player if it's installed and activated. Otherwise it uses the VLC plugin, if installed. You can try to check for the mp3 mimetype system default and compare it against the Firefox about:plugins. You can also try to install/reinstall a suitable web plugin.
